Tradition vs. innovation: comparing bioacoustics and mist-net results to bat sampling

Matheus Camargo Silva Mancini et al.

Summary: Bats are a complex and diverse group, and studying them can be challenging. This study compares the use of two methods, acoustic monitoring and mist-nets, to inventory bats in a mountainous region of Sao Paulo state, Brazil. The results show a high dissimilarity in species composition between the two methods, with turnover being the main factor. Additionally, the study finds associations between certain bat species and different habitat types using PCA analysis.

The effect of artificial light on bat richness and nocturnal soundscapes along an urbanization gradient in an arid landscape of central Peru

Jose Luis Mena et al.

Summary: Urbanization usually leads to a decrease in bat richness, however, green areas in urban and rural regions in arid ecosystems may provide microhabitats for certain bat species. Artificial night light intensity negatively affects bat occupancy and acoustic space used. Some bat species still utilize urban areas, similar to findings in other cities globally.
