Linear and nonlinear absorption properties of hemicyanine dyes containing 5-(4H)-oxazolone as heterocyclic ring

Marta Gordel-Wojcik et al.

Summary: A series of dyes with electron-donating and electron-accepting groups connected through a conjugated linker were designed and their absorption properties were studied. Spectrally resolved two-photon absorption measurements showed wide wavelength regions of nonlinear optical absorption. The compound containing the phenyl ring exhibited high effective two-photon absorption cross-section of 772 +/- 100 GM at 600 nm. The experimental results were supported by electronic-structure calculations.

A Modified Oxazolone Dye Dedicated to Spectroscopy and Optoelectronics

Adam Szukalski et al.

Summary: In this study, a newly synthesized bifunctional organic chromophore with appealing spectroscopic and nonlinear optical features was presented. The dye showed positive solvatochromism as the positions of absorption and emission maxima varied with increasing solvent polarity. The investigated organic-based system demonstrated significant optical signal modulation and the ability to generate second and third harmonic signals, making it a promising candidate for optoelectronic devices and complex networks.

Substituted 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3H-quinazolin-4-ones and their difluoroboron complexes: Synthesis and photophysical properties

Tatyana N. Moshkina et al.

Summary: 2-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)-3H-quinazolin-4-ones with diverse substituents on the phenol ring and their six-membered difluoroboron complexes were synthesized through a few-stage approach. The photophysical properties of these compounds were studied in two solvents and in the solid state, revealing the impact of substituents and substitution points on the photophysical properties of the dyes. In a THF/water mixture, all ligands showed enhanced emission with increasing water fraction due to aggregation-induced emission.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of direct (hetero)arylation on the optical properties of ESIPT dyes, revealing different excited-state dynamics depending on the nature of substitution and a strong increase in quantum yield in the solution state for pyridine substitution. The development of a second series of dyes with alkyl or aryl pyridinium moieties showing strong tunable solution/solid fluorescence intensity is also demonstrated.

Summary: Functional dicyclophanes with various substituents were synthesized using one-pot S(N)2 reaction, which can form nanospheres exhibiting aggregation-induced emission in aqueous solution. These AIE-active nanospheres with cationic feature selectively recognize anionic ATP through electrostatic interactions and hydrophobic effects in water.

Distance Effects of Phenylpiperazine-Containing Methacrylic Polymers on Optical and Structural Properties

Beata Derkowska-Zielinska et al.

Summary: A series of new materials based on methacrylic polymers modified with 1-(4-nitrophenyl)piperazine side chains were obtained and characterized for potential applications in optoelectronic devices. Structural modifications led to hypsochromic shift of the absorption spectrum and lowest refractive index values were found for the polymer with distant ethylene group in the side-chains and increased separation between piperazine units. Optical energy band gaps of investigated piperazine-containing polymers ranged from 2.73 to 2.81 eV, showing promising potential for advances in photovoltaics, field effect transistors, or electrochromic devices.
