Matheuristics for a parallel machine scheduling problem with non-anticipatory family setup times: Application in the offshore oil and gas industry

Victor Abu-Marrul et al.

Summary: This paper addresses a variant of a batch scheduling problem with identical parallel machines and non-anticipatory family setup times. New methods have been developed to overcome current solution approaches and provide improved results for ship scheduling problems, achieving a reduction of more than 10% in the objective function.

Modeling Production Scheduling Problems as Reinforcement Learning Environments based on Discrete-Event Simulation and OpenAl Gym

Sebastian Lang et al.

Summary: In recent years, researchers have been increasingly exploring the use of reinforcement learning algorithms to solve production scheduling problems, proposing a method to model production scheduling problems as RL environments. They utilize Discrete-Event Simulation and the Gym interface of the OpenAI foundation to enable the simple integration of pre-built RL algorithms.

Deep Reinforcement Learning for Minimizing Tardiness in Parallel Machine Scheduling With Sequence Dependent Family Setups

Bohyung Paeng et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a scheduling framework based on deep reinforcement learning to tackle urgent and frequent changes in scheduling problems within real manufacturing systems, outperforming recent metaheuristics, rule-based, and other RL-based methods in terms of total tardiness. By using state and action representations and an NN architecture with parameter sharing, the framework achieves improved training efficiency.

Effective Charging Planning Based on Deep Reinforcement Learning for Electric Vehicles

Cong Zhang et al.

Summary: Electric vehicles (EVs) are seen as an attractive option to reduce carbon emission and fuel consumption, but their popularization is hindered by limitations in cruising range and inconvenient charging processes. This study introduces a deep reinforcement learning algorithm to minimize the total charging time of EVs and reduce the origin-destination distance. The proposed algorithms show significant improvement compared to baseline algorithms EST and NNCR in reducing the charging time of EVs.
