Evaluation of Pb doped Poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) blend composites regarding physicochemical and radiation shielding properties

Mucahit Yilmaz et al.

Summary: In this study, composites with shape memory properties were prepared by blending a polymer with lead element. The thermal stability of the polymer blend decreased with increasing lead percentage. The best shape memory properties were observed in the polymer blend containing 4% lead. The XRD results showed the characteristic cubic shape of lead in the composites. The highest degree of crystallinity was found in the polymer blend composite containing 16% lead. The gamma irradiation experiment demonstrated that the linear absorption capacity increased with increasing lead percentage.

Magneto-Immunoassay for the Detection and Quantification of Human Growth Hormone

Almira Ramanaviciene et al.

Summary: This study presents the development of a specific magnetic immunoassay method for the determination of hGH concentration in serum. The method has a low limit of detection, clinically relevant linear range, and negligible non-specific binding. Important technical solutions for the development of this sandwich-type colorimetric magneto-immunoassay are discussed.

An Investigation into the Influence of C. moschata Leaves Extract on Physicochemical and Biological Properties of Biodegradable PCL/PLA Blend Film

Sibel Pekdemir et al.

Summary: In this study, a blend of poly epsilon-caprolactone and polylactic acid loaded with Cucurbita moschata leaf extract was synthesized and characterized in terms of its thermal properties, antimicrobial effects, and cytotoxicity. The results showed that the plant extract reduced the thermal stability and melting temperatures of the pure polymer blends, increased antimicrobial effects, and exhibited low cytotoxicity when loaded into the polymer blend.

Novel of (PLA/PCL blend)/Gd2O3 rare earth oxide nanocomposites: Shape memory effect, thermal, magnetic, and mechanical properties

Ecem Ozen Oner et al.

Summary: Poly e-caprolactone (PCL) and poly lactic acid (PLA) were blended to form polymer blend nanocomposites, and Gd2O3 oxide was added into the blend. The addition of Gd2O3 significantly improved the thermal stability and crystallinity of the blend, but had no significant effect on the melting temperature and shape memory effect. Moreover, the magnetic property of the composite changed from diamagnetic to paramagnetic with the addition of Gd2O3, while the mechanical properties showed no regular changes.

Biocompatible PLA/PCL blends nanocomposites doped with nanographite: Physico-chemical, and thermal behaviour

Ibrahim Nazem Qader et al.

Summary: Nano-graphite (NG) was doped in a poly(lactic acid) / poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PLA/PCL) blend to improve its physico-chemical and thermal behavior. NG affected the decomposition temperature of the nanocomposites and became locked between the polymer filaments, accelerating the decomposition process. The addition of NG did not significantly change the T-g and T-m peaks, but generally increased the enthalpy of phase transition. The XRD peaks' sharpness and the crystallinity of the nanocomposites were enhanced as the amount of NG in the blend increased.

Preparation of ε-Caprolactone/Fe3O4 Magnetic Nanocomposite and Its Application to the Remazol Brilliant Violet 5R Dye Adsorption from Wastewaters by Using RSM

Mustafa Ersin Pekdemir et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel adsorbent, PCL/Fe3O4 MNC, was synthesized and used for the removal of RBV 5R from aqueous media. The effects of dosage, process time, and initial concentration of RBV 5R were studied, and the optimum conditions for RBV 5R removal were determined. The adsorption process was analyzed using kinetic models and isotherm, and the results showed that Langmuir isotherm and pseudo second-order kinetic models best described the adsorption behavior. The structural characteristics of PCL/Fe3O4 MNC were examined, and it was found to have high adsorption yield for RBV 5R.

Poly(L-lactic acid)/poly(ethylene oxide) based composite electrospun fibers loaded with magnesium-aluminum layered double hydroxide nanoparticles

Esra Altay Ozturk et al.

Summary: In this study, Mg-Al layered double hydroxide nanoparticles were synthesized and used as inorganic fillers to enhance the mechanical properties of poly(lactic acid)/poly(ethylene oxide) electrospun composite fibers. The addition of the nanoparticles significantly improved the tensile strength and elongation at break of the composite fibers, while maintaining good cytocompatibility for cell attachment and proliferation.

Thermal behavior and shape memory properties of PCL blends film with PVC and PMMA polymers

Mustafa Ersin Pekdemir et al.

Summary: The shape memory behavior and characterizations of PCL blended with PVC and PMMA were studied in this research. It was found that blending PVC and PMMA with PCL affected the melting temperature and mass loss temperature of the blended polymers. Additionally, the lack of solubility between PCL and PMMA prevented shape recovery, while the PCL:PVC blend showed excellent strain recovery in the shape memory recovering test.
