Visible-light-driven double-shell SnIn4S8/TiO2 heterostructure with enhanced photocatalytic activity for MO removal and Cr(VI) cleanup

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: A novel visible-light-driven SnIn4S8 nanosheet/TiO2 hollow sphere heterojunction with intimate contact structure was successfully constructed by hydrothermal process. The SISTOHS heterostructures exhibited outstanding photocatalytic performance and the optimized sample SISTOHS2 showed the highest photodegradation and photoreduction efficiencies. The rate constants of photodegradation and photoreduction over SISTOHS2 were significantly higher than those of the control samples. The systemic characterizations revealed that the improvement of photocatalytic performance was attributed to the double-shell interface, which enhanced the interaction between SnIn4S8 and TiO2, as well as the increased visible light harvesting ability and abundant reactive sites.

Efficient all-in-one removal of total chromium over nonconjugated polymer-inorganic ZnIn2S4 semiconductor hybrid

Lan Yuan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an efficient all-in-one removal method for chromium-containing wastewater by concurrently reducing Cr(VI) to Cr(III) and fixing Cr(III) in-situ using a nonconjugated polymer engineered ZnIn2S4 (P-ZIS) photocatalyst. The P-ZIS catalyst shows enhanced light absorption, uplifted conduction band, and accelerated charge carrier transfer compared to pure ZIS, resulting in a faster Cr(VI) reduction kinetics. Additionally, P-ZIS exhibits significantly improved in-situ adsorption capability for Cr(III), enabling total Cr elimination within a single system.

A mini-review on ZnIn2S4-Based photocatalysts for energy and environmental application

Guping Zhang et al.

Summary: Semiconductor photocatalysis is considered as an attractive and eco-friendly technology for addressing global energy shortage and environmental pollution. Zinc indium sulfide (ZnIn2S4) has gained research attention due to its excellent visible light absorption, high chemical durability, and low cost. However, the photocatalytic activity of pristine ZnIn2S4 is limited by its narrow visible light absorption range and fast recombination rate of electrons and holes. Various modification strategies have been developed to enhance the photocatalytic performance of ZnIn2S4 materials. This review summarizes recent progress in the construction of highly active ZnIn2S4-based photocatalysts and critically reviews their applications in hydrogen evolution, carbon dioxide photoreduction, and water pollution treatment. The current challenges and future prospects for ZnIn2S4 semiconductor photocatalysts are also discussed.
