Controlling anodization time to monitor film thickness, phase composition and crystal orientation during anodic growth of TiO2 nanotubes

Xuelan Hou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of anodization time on the phase composition and morphology of anodic TiO2 during the growth process. The results showed that anodic TiO2 exhibited bottom-up tube growth with evidence of a compact layer. Additionally, the Richards growth model was found to be applicable for correlating growth time and film thickness.

Summary: Comprehensive control of processing techniques is crucial for fine-tuning the morphological features of titanium dioxide nanotube arrays (TNTs). This systematic review and meta-analysis compiled articles published from 2007 to date on the synthesis and growth mechanism of nanotubes fabricated via electrochemical anodization and assessed the potential relationships between anodizing conditions and the resulting structures.

Improved photoelectrocatalytic activity of anodic TiO2 nanotubes by boron in situ doping coupled with geometrical optimization: Application of a potent photoanode in the purification of dye wastewater

Rezgar Habibi et al.

Summary: A comparative study was conducted on the photoelectrocatalytic activity of anodic TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) and boron-doped TiO2 nanotubes (BTNTs) in NH4F and NH4BF4 electrolytes. The introduction of boron and shorter nanotubes were observed in BTNTs using NH4BF4, while anodization voltage significantly affected the optical properties. Increasing the voltage to 60 V resulted in enhanced photocurrent density and photoconversion efficiency, leading to improved PEC degradation efficiency under UV irradiation.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of co-doping with molybdenum and nitrogen on TiO2 nanotube aligned arrays (TNAs) under visible light irradiation, showing that the co-doping significantly enhances photo-conversion activity compared to single-doped samples. The characterization techniques confirmed the incorporation of Mo and N atoms into the TNAs lattice, leading to improved photoelectrochemical properties.

On Growth and Morphology of TiO2 Nanotubes on Ti6Al4V by Anodic Oxidation in Ethylene Glycol Electrolyte: Influence of Microstructure and Anodization Parameters

Bruno Ribeiro et al.

Summary: The possibility of producing TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) on Ti6Al4V alloy by electrochemical anodization has been demonstrated, but the anodizing behavior of alpha and beta phases in organic electrolytes has not been clarified. This study investigates the anodizing behavior of the two phases in an ethylene glycol electrolyte using different applied potentials and anodizing times. The research shows that the growth rate of alpha-phase TNTs is higher than beta-phase ones, resulting in the formation of longer, more defined nanotubes with thinner walls compared to those grown on the beta-phase.

Controlling the geometric design of anodic 1D TiO2 nanotubes for the electrochemical reduction of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene in ambient conditions

Sanghyeon Moon et al.

Summary: The study investigated the performance of anodic one-dimensional TiO2 nanotube arrays in electrochemical reduction of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene. The length of nanotubes was found to affect the reduction performance, with sensitivity, limit of detection, and limit of quantitation determined for different concentrations of 2,4,6-TNT. The composite-free electrode shows potential for enhancing detection sensitivity and further research is needed on nitro-based compounds.

Summary: This study fabricated double-walled TiO2 nanotube arrays using an anode oxidation method with Zinc counter electrode, and investigated their photodegradation performance. It was found that the choice of counter electrode significantly influenced the structural and optical properties of TNAs, and TNAs prepared with Zinc counter electrode demonstrated superior photodegradation efficiency compared to other counter electrodes. The optical, structural, and surface morphological properties of TNAs were correlated with their photodegradation performance when prepared with different counter electrodes.
