Understanding the effect of nanoparticles TiO2, Al2O3 and SiO2 on damage mechanisms of a polymer composite

Ahlem Bendaoued et al.

Summary: In this paper, nanoparticles obtained by Sol-gel method have been incorporated as a filler in glass fiber/polyester composite to enhance its mechanical properties. The study revealed that sol-gel powders with a spherical morphology exhibit excellent thermal stability. Acoustic emission analysis was used to investigate the microscopic damage mechanisms and progression in glass fiber reinforced nanocomposites. The results showed that the good dispersion of nanofillers, absence of agglomerates, and the good affinity with the improving of the interface compatibility contribute to the increase of mechanical performance and the decrease of damage modes of the composite.

Modified nano-SiO2/TiO2 hybrid fluorinated B-72 as antimicrobial and hydrophobic coatings for the conservation of ancient bricks

Kaiyi Wang et al.

Summary: A transparent superhydrophobic organic-inorganic composite coating was prepared to protect ancient bricks from micro-organisms and weathering. The composite coating, consisting of fluorinated B72 and methyl-modified silica/titania, demonstrated enhanced performance against weathering, bacteria, and algae. By coating the bricks with the composite, the weathering process can be slowed without altering the bricks' outward appearance, providing a non-destructive way to protect ancient buildings.

TiO2 /SiO2 dopant-free nanophotocatalysts for highly efficient photocatalytic water splitting: Challenging traditional TiO2-based systems

Yolice P. Moreno et al.

Summary: This study investigates three preparation methods for mesoporous silica nanosupports and explores the effect of surface nature on TiO2 active sites and photocatalytic reactions. The results show that molecular imprinting enhances the exposure of catalytic species and changes the electronic properties, resulting in a narrow energy bandgap. The dopant-free nanocatalysts exhibit high catalytic activity for H2 photoproduction, with the SiTi1200 sample performing exceptionally well. The study demonstrates that tunable TiO2/SiO2 nanosystems can overcome limitations in water splitting and provide new opportunities for catalytic applications.

Epoxy/SIO2 nanocomposite mechanical properties and tribological performance

K. Bharadwaja et al.

Summary: In this study, the performance of nanocomposites of SiO2 nanoparticles embedded in epoxy resin was evaluated through a systematic review. Ultrasonic mixing was used to achieve uniform dispersion of the epoxy resin nanoparticles. Various experiments, including three-dimensional experiments, Izod impact tests, and aging tests, were conducted to assess the composition and performance of the epoxy nanocomposites. Moreover, introducing SiO2 nanoparticles into the low epoxy resin matrix significantly reduced the flow rate and friction rate.

Study of controlled release of ibuprofen magnetic nanocomposites

Emiliane Daher Pereira et al.

Summary: The controlled drug delivery system, prepared by inserting ibuprofen and magnetite nanoparticles into the PLA matrix, combines the advantages of kinetic control (polymer) and spatial control (magnetite) to improve patient compliance and comfort, making the treatment more efficient. Various tests were conducted to verify the capacity of the system, showing sustained drug release profile and unchanged magnetic force of the nanoparticles in the PLA/drug systems.
