The value of combining individual and small area sociodemographic data for assessing and handling selective participation in cohort studies: Evidence from the Swedish CardioPulmonary bioImage Study

Carl Bonander et al.

Summary: This study found that combining individual-level and neighborhood-level data can better predict study participation and assess the effects of baseline selection on the distribution of metabolic risk factors and lifestyle factors. When reweighting the participants using both individual and area data, there was a greater change in the distribution of risk factors. However, most of these changes were not meaningful.

Prevalence of Subclinical Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis in the General Population

Goran Bergstrom et al.

Summary: Through conducting a study using CCTA on a random sample of individuals aged 50 to 64, we found that silent coronary atherosclerosis is common in this population, particularly in individuals with higher CAC scores.

The association between carotid-femoral pulse-wave velocity and lung function in the Swedish CArdioPulmonary bioImage study (SCAPIS) cohort

Suneela Zaigham et al.

Summary: This study found that decreased lung function and D-LCO in middle-aged men are associated with elevated arterial stiffness. This association remains significant even in never smokers and those without COPD or airflow limitation on spirometry.

Cardiovascular risk factors and autonomic indices in relation to fatal and non-fatal coronary events

Christian Zambach et al.

Summary: Recent years have seen a decrease in mortality caused by coronary artery disease, but a significant number of patients still die within the first day of a coronary event, most of them outside the hospital. Established cardiovascular risk factors such as smoking, high BMI, high blood pressure, and high resting heart rate are more strongly associated with fatal coronary events compared to non-fatal events.
