Automatic reconstruction method of 3D geological models based on deep convolutional generative adversarial networks

Zixiao Yang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an automatic reconstruction method for 3D geological models based on deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN). By using 2D geological sections as conditioning data, the method can generate 3D geological models that accurately capture the features and trends of geological structures. Experimental results show that the proposed method is capable of quickly reconstructing complex heterogeneous structures.

Probabilistic inversion of seismic data for reservoir petrophysical characterization: Review and examples

Dario Grana et al.

Summary: Seismic reservoir characterization aims to predict rock and fluid properties based on seismic measurements, using geophysical models and mathematical methods. Seismic inversion estimates elastic properties, while rock-physics inversion estimates petrophysical properties. Deterministic and probabilistic methods can be applied to solve these problems.

GANSim-3D for Conditional Geomodeling: Theory and Field Application

Suihong Song et al.

Summary: In this article, a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN)-based 3D reservoir simulation framework, GANSim-3D, is presented. It is capable of generating multiple realistic and conditional 3D earth models directly from given conditioning data. The framework is trained on small-size data cubes and can be used for geomodeling of 3D reservoirs of large arbitrary sizes. The practical use and verification of the framework are demonstrated using a field karst cave reservoir in China.

Uncertainty quantification and inverse modeling for subsurface flow in 3D heterogeneous formations using a theory-guided convolutional encoder-decoder network

Rui Xu et al.

Summary: We propose a surrogate modeling approach for dynamic 3D subsurface single-phase flow problems, which can provide efficient pressure estimation and uncertainty quantification. The model is transformed into an image-to-image regression problem using a neural network architecture, achieving higher accuracy and generalization ability compared to traditional numerical simulation tools.

Theory-guided Auto-Encoder for surrogate construction and inverse modeling

Nanzhe Wang et al.

Summary: A Theory-guided Auto-Encoder (TgAE) framework is proposed for surrogate construction, uncertainty quantification, and inverse modeling tasks. TgAE is trained based on the Auto-Encoder architecture of CNN with discretized governing equations embedded for theory-guided training. Results demonstrate satisfactory accuracy and efficiency for surrogate modeling and uncertainty quantification tasks.

Deep-learning-based surrogate flow modeling and geological parameterization for data assimilation in 3D subsurface flow

Meng Tang et al.

Summary: A deep-learning-based surrogate model for two-phase flow in 3D subsurface formations is presented, along with a CNN-PCA procedure for parameterizing complex geomodels. By training the surrogate model and combining it with the CNN-PCA procedure, a challenging data assimilation problem involving a channelized system is successfully addressed.

GANSim: Conditional Facies Simulation Using an Improved Progressive Growing of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)

Suihong Song et al.

Summary: Conditional facies modeling combines geological spatial patterns with different types of observed data to build earth models for predictions of subsurface resources. Researchers have improved GANs for conditional facies simulation by introducing an extra condition-based loss function and adjusting the architecture of the generator, resulting in high-quality facies models and stronger conditioning ability of the generators.
