OPTN/SRTR 2020 Annual Data Report: Heart

M. Colvin et al.

Summary: This article discusses the challenges faced in the third year of the new adult heart allocation policy in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides data on the number of new listings, adult and pediatric heart transplants performed, and posttransplant mortality rates. Early Outcomes With the Liver-kidney Safety Net

Robert M. Cannon et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the early outcomes of liver transplant recipients who opted for kidney transplantation under the safety net policy. It was found that the policy provided rapid access to kidney transplantation with good early survival for eligible patients. Further understanding of the survival of patients unable to qualify for kidney transplant after liver transplant is needed before any further restrictions on simultaneous liver-kidney transplant.

Consensus conference on heart-kidney transplantation

Jon Kobashigawa et al.

Summary: Simultaneous heart-kidney transplant has achieved successful outcomes for patients with end-stage heart disease and concomitant kidney disease, but decision-making for this procedure presents challenges. A consensus conference in 2019 aimed to develop interdisciplinary criteria, evaluate kidney allocation, and recommend standardized care for sHK recipients.

Early Outcomes With the Liver-kidney Safety Net

Robert M. Cannon et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the early outcomes of liver transplant recipients under the safety net policy regarding subsequent kidney transplantation. The results showed that patients under the safety net had higher survival rates within one year, quicker access to kidney transplantation, and better survival outcomes.
