Exploring the Risk Thresholds of Soil Heavy Metals in Carbonate and Non-carbonate Rock Areas: The Case of Qianjiang District in Chongqing, China

Xiang Wang et al.

Summary: In order to determine the applicability of the national soil heavy metal standards (GB 15618-2018) to carbonate and non-carbonate zones in Southwest China, rice and rhizosphere soil samples were collected and analyzed in Chongqing. The study found that the Cd risk screening value in GB 15618-2018 was stricter for alkaline soils compared to those in carbonate and non-carbonate areas. Additionally, the calculated pollution threshold for Cd in acidic soils in the non-carbonate area was lower than that in GB 15618-2018. Therefore, a soil-crop system evaluation is recommended to improve the applicability of the evaluation results.

Total Phosphorus Determination in Soils Using Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy: Evaluating Different Sources of Matrix Effects

Sara Sanchez-Esteva et al.

Summary: Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) shows potential as an alternative method for total soil phosphorus determination, with high correlation between LIBS-P response and total phosphorus. However, sensitivity of LIBS varies significantly among soils, indicating the need for further investigation on factors influencing different soil types.

Recent advances in the development of activatable multifunctional probes for in vivo imaging of caspase-3

Pengzhan Wang et al.

Summary: Caspases, a family of proteases, are crucial in inflammation and cell death regulation. The detection and imaging of caspase-3 are significant for evaluating tumor therapeutic effects. Developing smart fluorescent probes and activatable probes can improve the visualization of therapeutic effects and imaging of caspase-3. Multi-functional probes are also designed to enhance caspase-3 imaging.

Highly sensitive detection of sodium in aqueous solutions using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy with liquid sheet jets

Ryuzo Nakanishi et al.

Summary: Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) combined with liquid jets was used to detect trace sodium (Na) in aqueous solutions. The study compared the sensitivities of a liquid cylindrical jet and a liquid sheet jet, finding that the liquid sheet jet reduced splash and produced long-lived luminous plasma more effectively than the cylindrical jet. The limit of detection (LOD) for Na was 0.57 μg/L for the sheet jet and 10.5 μg/L for the cylindrical jet, with the LOD for the sheet jet being comparable to commercially available inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometers.

Big Data and Machine Learning With Hyperspectral Information in Agriculture

Kenneth Li-Minn Ang et al.

Summary: Hyperspectral and multispectral information processing systems and technologies have proven useful for improving agricultural productivity and practices by providing valuable information to farmers and crop managers. They are widely used in various agriculture applications, such as crop management and disease detection. Hyperspectral information sensing can acquire numerous spectral bands, forming a data cube with rich spatial and spectral information, which poses big data challenges in agricultural remote sensing applications.
