Estimating the amount of cadmium and lead in the polluted soil using artificial intelligence models

Ahmad Bazoobandi et al.

Summary: Contamination issues, particularly heavy metals such as cadmium and lead, are important and unsolved problems connected to human and environmental health. This study estimated lead and cadmium levels in soil using multiple models. The results showed that the artificial neural network model outperformed the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system model in estimating lead and cadmium. Organic carbon and phosphorus were found to have the most and least significant effects on the estimation of lead and cadmium parameters, respectively.

The application of machine learning methods for prediction of metal immobilization remediation by biochar amendment in soil

Yang Sun et al.

Summary: Biochar is widely used as a soil remediation agent in heavy metal contaminated sites. However, measuring the efficiency of remediation is challenging due to the diversity of soils, biochars, and heavy metal contamination. This study aimed to predict remediation results and select appropriate biochars by creating a database and using machine learning methods. The results showed that the artificial neural network and random forest models outperformed the linear model in predicting remediation efficiency. Factors such as the type of heavy metals, pH value of biochar, and dosage and remediation time were found to be the most influential elements in the remediation process.
