Burden of disease study of overweight and obesity; the societal impact in terms of cost-of-illness and health-related quality of life

J. Hecker et al.

Summary: Little is known about the burden that overweight and obesity impose on Dutch society. This study examines the cost-of-illness and health-related quality of life for overweight and obese individuals in the Netherlands. The results show that overweight and obesity have a significant impact on societal costs and health-related quality of life. The study highlights the need for collective prevention and effective treatment to reduce this burden.

Sweet taste and obesity

Gabriela Ribeiro et al.

Summary: Studies suggest that individuals with obesity may have decreased taste perception, particularly for sweet tastes, while energy deficit resulting from dieting may increase sensitivity to palatable foods. However, the association between obesity and reduced sweet taste perception remains inconclusive due to conflicting findings in research.
