Identification of phytocompounds from Houttuynia cordata Thunb. as potential inhibitors for SARS-CoV-2 replication proteins through GC-MS/LC-MS characterization, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation

Sanjib Kumar Das et al.

Summary: The study identified bioactive compounds from the traditional antiviral herb Houttuynia cordata as potential inhibitors for three main replication proteins of SARS-CoV-2. Compounds 6-Hydroxyondansetron and Quercitrin showed strong binding affinity towards the replication proteins, demonstrating potential for development as therapeutic drugs against COVID-19.

Metabolomics, sensory evaluation, and enzymatic hydrolysis reveal the effect of storage on the critical astringency-active components of crude Pu-erh tea

Yiyu Ren et al.

Summary: This study investigated the key astringency compounds of Crude Pu-erh tea (CPET) during storage using metabolomics integrated with sensory evaluation. The results showed that the hydrolysis of galloylated catechins was the key reason for astringency decrease, while flavonol glycosides had a lower contribution to astringency.

The Bacillary Postbiotics, Including 2-Undecanone, Suppress the Virulence of Pathogenic Microorganisms

Satish Kumar Rajasekharan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the antagonistic potential of secreted probiotic filtrates derived from Lactobacillus plantarum cells against pathogenic microorganisms. It found that these postbiotics could mitigate the biofilms of the tested pathogens and suppress some virulence traits. Further analysis revealed that an active constituent, 2-undecanone, inhibited C. albicans biofilms and hyphae and interacted specifically with a hyphal wall protein. These findings suggest the potential of using postbiotics, including specific ketone molecules, for developing novel antibiofilm and anti-hyphal pharmaceuticals.
