Definitions and use of the teach-back method in healthcare consultations with patients: A systematic review and thematic synthesis

Summary: This study reviewed and synthesized definitions of the teach-back method in literature, as well as barriers, facilitators, and perceptions of its use in healthcare consultations with patients. Findings showed variations in operational definitions and the importance of healthcare providers' and patients' perceptions on its effectiveness. Training healthcare providers on the teach-back method was identified as beneficial for improving communication skills and increasing its use with patients.
