Cartilage tissue engineering: From proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines to osteoarthritis treatments

Shuyu Liu et al.

Summary: Osteoarthritis is a common joint disease with unclear etiology, influenced by factors like age, obesity, inflammation, trauma, and genetics. Imbalance between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines in knee articular cartilage metabolism can deform and damage the joint. Cartilage tissue engineering shows promise in preventing OA by maintaining a balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory factors.

The antibacterial effect of Plectranthus scutellarioides (L.) R.Br. leaves extract against bacteria associated with peri-implantitis

Nor Amiyah Bismelah et al.

Summary: The present study investigates the potential antibacterial activity of Plectranthus scutellarioides (L.) R.Br. as an oral rinse against bacteria associated with peri-implantitis. The results show that P. scutellarioides extract exhibits antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria without cytotoxicity to human gingival fibroblast cells. Further research is warranted to explore the safety and efficacy of P. scutellarioides as an adjunctive treatment for peri-implantitis.
