Acanthospermum hispidum DC: An Updated Review on Phytochemistry and Biological Activities

Ewelyn Cintya Felipe dos Santos et al.

Summary: Acanthospermum hispidum is a medicinal plant with potential therapeutic properties for gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders. Chemical studies have identified various compounds in the plant, including flavonoids, tannins, terpenes, and steroids. Antimicrobial and antiparasitic activities have been observed, along with other effects such as hepatoprotection and antioxidant properties. No toxic effects have been reported. Further research using animal models is needed to understand the mechanisms of action.

Antiviral activities of flavonoids

Syed Lal Badshah et al.

Summary: Flavonoids, a group of natural phytochemicals, exhibit antiviral activity against various diseases caused by DNA and RNA viruses at different stages of viral infection. Some flavonoids have shown more potent antiviral activity than conventional drugs used for treating viral infections, with some compounds even protecting against lethal doses of virus in in vivo studies.

Chrysosplenol D Triggers Apoptosis through Heme Oxygenase-1 and Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Signaling in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Ming-Ju Hsieh et al.

Summary: Chrysosplenol D, a flavonol isolated from Artemisia annua L., has shown anticancer effects by reducing cell viability, cell cycle arrest, inducing apoptosis, and affecting autophagy in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The upregulation of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and suppression of the MAPK pathway are critical for the anticancer effects of chrysosplenol D in OSCC. The findings suggest that chrysosplenol D may serve as a potential anticancer agent for OSCC treatment.
