Influence of microstructure on replacement and porosity generation during experimental dolomitization of limestones

Juliane Weber et al.

Summary: Replacement reactions can alter the multiscale pore structures of rocks during fluid-rock interactions, and the effects of initial starting material permeability on porosity and mineralogical changes were investigated through a series of controlled laboratory experiments. The study focused on dolomitization of limestone and found that both the mechanisms of the replacement reaction and the microstructure of the replaced product are dependent on the initial structure of the starting material.

Numerical studies and analysis on reactive flow in carbonate matrix acidizing

Cunqi Jia et al.

Summary: Matrix acidizing is a stimulation technique to improve oil recovery in carbonate reservoirs. A new two-scale continuum model is used to study acidizing process, highlighting the significant impact of acid injection velocity and acid surface reaction rate. Ignoring mass exchange between fluid and solid phases can lead to an overestimation of pore volume to breakthrough, and Darcy's law is not applicable at low acid injection velocity.

Unsaturated hydraulic conductivity in dual-porosity soils: Percolation theory

Behzad Ghanbarian

Summary: Modeling fluid flow in dual-porosity media with bi-modal pore size distributions has practical applications to understanding transport in agricultural soils. Comparing theoretical estimations with experimental measurements shows that a modified capillary pressure curve model results in more accurate unsaturated hydraulic conductivity (KSw) estimations. Additionally, accurate characterization of the capillary pressure curve and correct determination of the crossover point separating the structure domain from the texture one are crucial for precise estimation of K(Sw) via critical path analysis (CPA).
