Frequency of middle mesial canal in mandibular first molars and its association with various anatomic variables

Usman Anwer Bhatti et al.

Summary: The middle mesial canal is uncommon in mandibular first molars, but the presence of an adjacent C-shaped mandibular second molar increases the likelihood of finding a middle mesial canal threefold. Bilateral presence of the middle mesial canal in mandibular molars is rare.

Root and Canal Morphology of Mandibular First Molars in a Moroccan Subpopulation by Cone-Beam Computed Tomography and Its International Comparison: A Cross-sectional Study

Sofia Drouri et al.

Summary: This study assessed the root and canal morphology of mandibular first molars in a Moroccan subpopulation using CBCT images. The results showed that 95.2% of the examined molars had two roots, 4.5% had three roots, and 0.3% had a single root. There were no significant differences between the sexes. The root canal configuration was significantly different between the mesial root of two-rooted and three-rooted mandibular first molars.

Middle mesial root canals in mandibular molars: prevalence and correlation to anatomical aspects based on CBCT imaging

Matheus Barros-Costa et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of the middle mesial root canal (MMC) in a Brazilian subpopulation, assess its relationship with anatomical characteristics of teeth, and propose a classification system using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The results showed a higher prevalence of MMC in mandibular first molars and certain anatomical measurements, such as the distance between the mesiobuccal and mesiolingual canals, may indicate its presence. Four types of MMC configurations were identified.

Variations of root and canal morphology of mandibular second molars in Chinese individuals: a cone-beam computed tomography study

Lin Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the root canal morphology of mandibular second molars in a Chinese population and found that the most common morphology is two separate roots with three canals. The prevalence of C-shaped root canals is higher in females than in males, and C-shaped canals are typically bilateral.

Comprehensive evaluation of root and root canal morphology of mandibular second molars in a Saudi subpopulation evaluated by cone-beam computed tomography

Moazzy Almansour et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the root and root canal anatomy of mandibular second molars with C-shaped root canal configurations in residents of the Hail district using CBCT. The findings revealed significant differences in root canal morphology between Saudi subpopulations, with the majority of mandibular second molars having two roots and three root canals. The presence of a C-shaped root canal system should be taken into account when treating these molars.

Evaluation of Radix Entomolaris and Middle Mesial Canal in Mandibular Permanent First Molars in an Iraqi Subpopulation Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

Ranjdar Mahmood Talabani et al.

Summary: This study used CBCT to evaluate the prevalence and types of radix entomolaris (RE) and middle mesial canal (MMC) in mandibular permanent first molars in an Iraqi subpopulation. The study found that the prevalence of RE was significantly higher in males than females, while age and tooth position did not significantly affect the prevalence. The prevalence of MMC was higher when merged with the mesiolingual canal compared to other types. No significant association was found between the prevalence of MMC and RE.

Radiographic Investigation of Root Canal Morphology of Permanent Mandibular Molars in Makkah Population (Saudi Arabia) Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

Laila Mohamed Mohamed Kenawi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the root canal morphology of first and second permanent mandibular molars among the Makkah population using CBCT. The majority of molars had two roots and three root canals, with different canal configurations prevailing in the mesial and distal roots. The incidence of three-rooted mandibular molars was low, and C-shaped canals were present in a small percentage of cases.

Summary: This study observed the number and morphology of roots associated with mandibular second molars using dental CBCT. The presence of a GSR was found in 35.3% of the cases, with a higher prevalence in females. The fused part accounted for 48.7% of the root thickness. C-shaped root canal morphology was commonly observed.
