Synthesis and ionic conductivity of calcium-doped ceria relevant to solid oxide fuel cell applications

Naeemakhtar Momin et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the development of commercial electrolyte materials for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). Ca-doped ceria samples with different compositions were synthesized and characterized. The 0.10 CDC exhibited high oxide ion conductivity and a low activation energy, making it a promising electrolyte material for IT-SOFCs.

Electrical properties of Ca-doped ceria electrolytes prepared by proteic sol-gel route and by solid-state reaction using mollusk shells

Maxwell F. L. Garcia et al.

Summary: In this study, Ca-doped ceria (CCO) electrolytes were prepared using proteic sol-gel synthesis and solid-state reaction approaches. The materials prepared by the sol-gel route showed better electrical response and four times higher bulk conductivity compared to those processed by the solid-state reaction route. Additionally, distinct differences were observed in the electrical properties of grain boundaries in terms of oxygen vacancy concentration profiles and space charge potentials between the two processing methods.
