Cold Tolerance of Immature Stages of Ceratitis capitata and Bactrocera dorsalis (Diptera: Tephritidae)

Aruna Manrakhan et al.

Summary: This study compares the cold tolerances of two fruit fly pests, Bactrocera dorsalis and Ceratitis capitata, in South Africa. It finds that the current cold treatment schedules for disinfestation of Ceratitis capitata can be equally or more efficacious for Bactrocera dorsalis.

Postharvest Disinfestation Treatments for False Codling Moth and Fruit Flies in Citrus from South Africa

Sean Moore et al.

Summary: South Africa is a significant producer and exporter of citrus fruit, but pests such as the false codling moth and fruit flies pose phytosanitary risks for export markets. Various postharvest phytosanitary treatments have been explored, but a systems approach that combines multiple measures is preferred due to potential phytotoxic effects. Currently, the only commercially used postharvest treatments for these pests in South African citrus are cold treatments, either alone or as part of a multi-tiered systems approach. Research on developing and improving postharvest measures remains a high priority.

The relationship between thermal physiology and lampricide sensitivity in larval sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus)

Benjamin L. Hlina et al.

Summary: The sensitivity of larval sea lamprey to the lampricide TFM varies with season, with higher tolerance in summer due to increased water temperature. It is recommended to consider water temperature in sea lamprey control efforts to mitigate increased tolerance to TFM.
