Control programs for infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) in European countries: an overview

Carmen Iscaro et al.

Summary: IBR, caused by BoHV-1, is a disease of cattle causing significant economic losses worldwide. Each member state in Europe can establish its own IBR control program and demand additional guarantees for cattle destined to its territory. Implementing a novel law and a European IBR data flow could facilitate the eradication of IBR in all European countries.

Seroprevalence of selected endemic infectious diseases in large-scale Estonian dairy herds and their associations with cow longevity and culling rates

Kerli Motus et al.

Summary: This study reveals that large-scale dairy herds in Estonia are infected with several key cattle pathogens endemically. Most of these pathogens impact longevity and culling rates of cows, leading to health and economic consequences.

Eradication of Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) in Cattle in Switzerland: Lessons Taught by the Complex Biology of the Virus

Matthias Schweizer et al.

Summary: Switzerland initiated a national mandatory control program in 2008 to eradicate BVD from the Swiss cattle population, achieving significant success through measures such as virus testing of newborn calves and prohibiting vaccination. However, eliminating the last remaining PI animals remains a challenge.
