Effect of Treatment with Additional Doses of Prostaglandin F2 Alpha during the Middle Stage of the Oestrus Cycle on Luteolysis Process and Reproduction Performance in Holstein Dairy Cows

N. . Neisari et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the luteolysis response and reproductive performance in dairy cows after one or two injections of PGF(2)alpha during the oestrus cycle. The results showed that an additional dose of PGF(2)alpha did not have a significant effect on luteolysis or reproductive performance.

Summary: The Ovsynch protocol has been proven to increase pregnancy per artificial insemination (P/AI) in lactating dairy cows, compared to cows inseminated after a detected estrus. Implementing timed artificial insemination (TAI) programs has been an important factor in the significant improvement of reproductive performance in lactating dairy cows in the United States over the past 20 years.

Investigating the effect of temporal, geographic, and management factors on US Holstein lactation curve parameters

M. Li et al.

Summary: This study fitted Wood's lactation model to test-day milk production records of US Holstein cows and investigated the effects of temporal, spatial, and management factors on lactation curve parameters and 305-day milk yield. Results showed that parity, calving month, year, and milking frequency had significant effects on lactation curve parameters and milk yield.

Effect of reproductive management programs for first service on replacement dairy heifer economics

M. Masello et al.

Summary: The study evaluated cash flow for dairy heifers managed with different artificial insemination programs. Results showed that using TAI only or in combination with AIE generated numerical differences in cash flow of potential value to commercial dairy farms. Reduced rearing cost and increased revenue during lactation improved cash flow under fixed or simulated variable market conditions.

Summary: Delaying the removal of CIDR can decrease early expression of estrus before timed artificial insemination, and may also increase pregnancy success rates.

Associations between dry period length and time to culling and pregnancy in the subsequent lactation

P. Pattamanont et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between dry period length and time to culling and pregnancy in subsequent lactations using dairy herd improvement milk test data from 40 states in the United States. It found that different dry period lengths were associated with significant differences in the risk of culling and pregnancy, with quadratic polynomials potentially useful for decision support on customization of dry period lengths for individual cows. Cause-specific hazard models and subdistribution hazard models produced similar results, indicating minor differences in the relative frequency of disposal codes.
