Irreducible cosmic production of relic vortons

Pierre Auclair et al.

Summary: The study suggests the existence of an irreducible population of vortons in the Universe, which has not been considered before. Vortons are proposed as a viable and original dark matter candidate, possibly applicable for all values of the string tension, with a broad mass, spin and charge spectrum leading to an unusual phenomenology in dark matter searches.

Constraints on Cosmic Strings Using Data from the Third Advanced LIGO-Virgo Observing Run

R. Abbott et al.

Summary: The study searches for gravitational-wave signals produced by cosmic strings in the O3 dataset and constrains the cosmic string tension using upper limits derived from the stochastic gravitational-wave background energy density. The constraints on G mu are improved upon previous studies, challenging simple inflationary models in the case of cosmic strings formed within the context of grand unified theories.

Loop decay in Abelian-Higgs string networks

Mark Hindmarsh et al.

Summary: The study found that in the Abelian-Higgs model, loops formed by intersections of infinite strings from random-field initial conditions disappear quickly, with lifetimes proportional to their initial rest-frame length. However, oscillating nonself intersecting loops constructed using a new method have lifetimes scaling differently. The study also shows differences in mean-square velocity and proposes a parameter to quantify uncertainty in loop survival.
