On the cosmic web elongation in fuzzy dark matter cosmologies: Effects on density profiles, shapes, and alignments of haloes

Tibor Dome et al.

Summary: In this study, cosmological N-body simulations were used to investigate high-redshift dark matter haloes and their responsiveness to an FDM-like power spectrum cutoff. FDM-like haloes were found to have lower concentrations, more elongated shapes, and stronger alignment correlations compared to CDM haloes. These FDM-like features are expected to be strikingly visible in the high-z Universe.

Addressing the Hubble and S8 tensions with a kinetically mixed dark sector

Stephon Alexander et al.

Summary: We propose a kinetically mixed dark sector model to resolve the tensions in the Hubble and S8 parameters. Our model, inspired by string theory, includes an axion and a dilaton. Unlike other axio-dilaton models, our theory incorporates kinetic mixing between the two fields, allowing efficient energy transfer and avoiding the need for fine-tuned potentials. This model also has implications for the growth of perturbations and the potential connection to dark energy.

Improved mixed dark matter halo model for ultralight axions

Sophie M. L. Vogt et al.

Summary: We propose a complete halo model for mixed dark matter consisting of cold dark matter (CDM) and ultralight axionlike particles (ULAs). Our model considers ULAs as a biased tracer of CDM, similar to the treatment of massive neutrinos and neutral hydrogen. The model takes into account the clustering of ULAs around CDM host halos and captures the cross correlations between both components. This model can be used to predict the matter power spectrum for subpopulations of ULAs across a wide mass range and can be further improved through calibration with future simulations.

The upper bounds for axion relic density are obtained based on galaxy clustering statistics from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, with improved constraints compared to using only cosmic microwave background data. The computational cost is reduced by 70% through the development of an augmented interpolation scheme.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of thermal axion production around the confinement scale. By considering the masses of heavy quarks at higher temperatures and quantifying production via hadron scattering at lower temperatures, a continuous axion production rate across the QCD phase transition is obtained. Such a rate is then used to quantify the contribution of axions to the effective number of neutrino species.

Implications of the cosmic birefringence measurement for the axion dark matter search

Ippei Obata

Summary: This study shows that the constraint on cosmic birefringence effect caused by dark energy can be related to the constraints on the coupling of axion dark matter to photon. By using a simple model of two-axion alignment mechanism with periodic potentials, the study explains that one linear combination of two fields acts as dark energy while the other acts as dark matter. This scenario solves the conceptual issues of one-field model for dark energy and predicts the connection between seemingly disparate constraints on the dark sectors of our universe.

A non-linear solution to the S8 tension?

Alexandra Amon et al.

Summary: Weak galaxy lensing surveys have shown a lower amplitude for the matter fluctuation spectrum than expected, while other measurements such as the expansion history and lensing of the cosmic microwave background anisotropies are consistent with the Planck ?CDM cosmology. In this paper, the authors suggest that the discrepancy can be explained if the matter power spectrum is suppressed more strongly on non-linear scales than previously assumed in weak galaxy lensing analyses. This explanation can be tested using future measurements of the matter fluctuation spectrum on linear scales.

Viability of ultralight bosonic dark matter in dwarf galaxies

Isabelle S. Goldstein et al.

Summary: The distribution of dark matter in dwarf galaxies provides important information about the properties and interactions of dark matter particles. This study investigates the consistency of ultralight bosonic dark matter with the gravitational potential inferred from stellar kinematics. The results suggest that particle masses of around 10-22 eV require halo masses exceeding 1010 solar masses, while particle masses greater than 10-20 eV are favoured by halo masses within the range of [108-109] solar masses, behaving similarly to cold dark matter. The presence of a central black hole influences the dynamics of stars, allowing for lower halo masses. However, there is no preference for models with a black hole over models without. The main conclusion is that either the particle mass of fuzzy dark matter must be greater than 10-20 eV, or the Milky Way dwarf galaxies must be unusually heavy, or they must contain a central black hole.

Closing the window on fuzzy dark matter with the 21-cm signal

Jordan Flitter et al.

Summary: Fuzzy dark matter (FDM) is a candidate for dark matter with a tiny mass and large de-Broglie wavelength, which can solve small-scale discrepancies in the Lambda CDM model. Although it has been ruled out as the only component of dark matter, there is still a region in the FDM parameter space where FDM can comprise a large portion of the total dark matter. This study investigates the signature of FDM on the 21-cm signal and its detectability using 21-cm interferometers. The results suggest that HERA can improve the detection sensitivity for FDM fractions in the FDM window.

Constraints on prerecombination early dark energy from SPT-3G public data
