Influence of cyclic aging on adhesive mode mixity in dissimilar composite/metal double cantilever beam joints

Mostafa Moazzami et al.

Summary: The adhesive layer in adhesive joints can be subjected to different modes of loading. The fracture energy of adhesive is not only a material parameter but also depends on the joint configuration. It is recommended to use the same substrate(s) as in real applications to determine the fracture energy of the joints for accurate simulation. This study investigates the mode mixity variation in dissimilar double cantilever beam adhesive joints subjected to cyclic aging and compares the experimental results with numerical calculations based on the flexural stiffness variation of the composite substrate.

Fatigue performances and reliability analysis of fatigue life for scarf-repaired composite laminates

Wei Feng et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the fatigue performances and reliability analysis of scarf-repaired carbon fiber composite laminates. Experimental results show the fatigue limit of scarf-repaired composite laminates and the dominant failure mode. The distribution of fatigue life data is also discussed.

Bending strength of single-lap adhesive joints under hygrothermal aging combined with cyclic thermal shocks

N. S. Hirulkar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of hygrothermal aging and cyclic thermal shocks on the flexural properties of single-lap adhesive joints. The research found that higher hygrothermal aging temperatures led to greater decreases in failure load and maximum failure displacement, while thermal shocks in air had minimal effects. Additionally, flexural properties significantly degraded with an increasing number of hygrothermal shocks, with water/air environments proving to be more severe than water/water environments.

Computational AI prediction models for residual tensile strength of GFRP bars aged in the alkaline concrete environment

Mudassir Iqbal et al.

Summary: This study investigates the durability of GFRP bars under harsh alkaline environments using artificial intelligence techniques like ANN, GEP, and ANFIS. The study proposes a new strategy to find tensile strength retention (TSR) and shows that large diameter bars and high volume fraction of fibers have positive effects on TSR.
