Biomass-Induced Diphasic Carbon Decoration for Carbon Nitride: Band and Electronic Engineering Targeting Efficient N2 Photofixation

Zheng Tang et al.

Summary: Developing a photocatalyst with efficient charge separation and abundant reactive sites for photocatalytic N-2 fixation by adding lotus root starch into the preparation of carbon nitride has been proposed. The adjustment to the carbon nitride framework by planar-fused carbon optimizes the band alignment of the catalyst, improving its response to sunlight while unique dual electron transfer pathways are initiated. The bio-carbon-doped catalyst exhibits drastically enhanced photocatalytic N-2 fixation performance, expanding the metal-free skeleton engineering toolbox and providing new guidance for solar energy utilizations.

Ordered and Ultralong Graphitic Carbon Nitride Nanotubes Obtained via In-Air CVD for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Xiaobo Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, an ordered and one-dimensionally ultralong carbon nitride nanotube (CN-NT) was prepared via in-air chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using SiO2 nanofiber templates, leading to significant enhancement in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate. The obtained CN-NT sample exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity with a noticeable quantum efficiency of 6.49% and lower recombination rate of photogenerated electrons, attributed to increased specific surface area, faster electron transfer pathway, advanced light absorption ability.

On-Surface Polymerization of In-Plane Highly Ordered Carbon Nitride Nanosheets toward Photocatalytic Mineralization of Mercaptan Gas

Fangsong Guo et al.

Summary: 2D carbon nitride nanosheets with in-plane highly ordered structure (PCNNs-IHO) are successfully prepared by on-surface polymerization of melamine on NaCl crystal surface at elevated temperatures. The NaCl crystals with relative high surface energy facilitate the adsorption and activation of melamine to undergo condensation reaction, and also function as unique substrates to orientate the assembly of 2D nanosheet structure. NaCl acts as a reactant to provide Na+ doping into carbon nitride matrix, affording PCNNs-IHO with robust structural base sites. PCNNs-IHO exhibits superior photocatalytic performance toward CH3SH mineralization under visible light irradiation.

Wafer-scale growth of two-dimensional graphitic carbon nitride films

Zhiyu Liu et al.

Summary: The study developed a method for wafer-scale synthesis of uniform 2D g-CN films with tunable thickness using vapor-phase transport-assisted condensation. Calculations showed that direct condensation from melem to heptazine-based carbon nitride enabled the formation of high-quality g-CN films. A water-assisted transfer strategy was developed for subsequent fabrication on arbitrary substrates, paving the way for g-CN-based electronic and optoelectronic devices.
