Photo- and Electrocatalytic Reduction of CO2 over Metal-Organic Frameworks and Their Derived Oxides: A Correlation of the Reaction Mechanism with the Electronic Structure

Soumitra Payra et al.

Summary: A Ce/Ti-based bimetallic metal-organic framework (MOF) showed better photocatalytic reduction of CO2 compared to an isoreticular pristine monometallic Ce-terephthalate MOF due to its highly selective CO2 adsorption capability, optimized band gaps, higher flux of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, and a lower rate of recombination. The inclusion of an amine functional group into the linker led to the reduction of Ce4+ to Ce3+, and the presence of low-lying Ti(3d) orbitals facilitated the photo-reduction reaction.

In-Plane Charge Transport Dominates the Overall Charge Separation and Photocatalytic Activity in Crystalline Carbon Nitride

Guoqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the role of in-plane charge transport in layered polymeric carbon nitride (CN) is demonstrated both theoretically and experimentally. The effects of three alkaline potassium salts on in-plane sewing and interlayer cutting of CN polymerization process are enhanced with the increase of alkalinity. The influence of in-plane crystallinity on charge transfer, separation, and photocatalytic activity is elucidated through the samples of three alkaline potassium salt series. These findings provide guidance for improving photoelectric conversion efficiency by optimizing in-plane charge transfer in layered photoelectric conversion materials.

Multidimensional In2O3/In2S3 heterojunction with lattice distortion for CO2 photoconversion

Jinman Yang et al.

Summary: This study develops a multidimensional In2O3/In2S3 (IO/IS) heterojunction with abundant lattice distortion structure and high concentration of oxygen defects to improve the performance of photocatalytic CO2 reduction. The heterojunction with close contact interfaces facilitates electron transmission and enhances the adsorption and activation of CO2 on the catalyst surface. The perfect combination of band matching oxide and sulfide effectively reduces the energy barrier of the CO2 reduction reaction. Furthermore, the lattice distortion structure provides additional active sites and optimizes the reaction kinetics. The optimal IO/IS heterojunction demonstrates superior CO2 reduction performance. This work emphasizes the importance of tight interfaces in heterojunction for improving CO2 photoreduction performance and provides an effective strategy for constructing heterojunction photocatalysts.
