Dielectric Loss Mechanism in Electromagnetic Wave Absorbing Materials

Ming Qin et al.

Summary: Comprehensive views on dielectric loss mechanisms provide important guidance for understanding the attenuation behavior of materials. Current researches focus more on materials synthesis rather than in-depth mechanism study. Therefore, further research on in-depth mechanisms, emphasis on new dielectric loss mechanisms, and new modulation strategies are needed to achieve simple and effective EM wave attenuation behavior modulation.

Hypocrystalline ceramic aerogels for thermal insulation at extreme conditions

Jingran Guo et al.

Summary: This study reports a multiscale design of hypocrystalline zircon nanofibrous aerogels with a zig-zag architecture, which exhibits exceptional thermomechanical stability and ultralow thermal conductivity at high temperatures. The aerogels have a near-zero Poisson's ratio and thermal expansion coefficient, ensuring excellent structural flexibility and thermomechanical properties. By deliberately entrapping residue carbon species, the researchers successfully reduce thermal radiation heat transfer and achieve one of the lowest high-temperature thermal conductivities among ceramic aerogels.

Electromagnetic absorbers with Schottky contacts derived from interfacial ligand exchanging metal-organic frameworks

Zhenguo Gao et al.

Summary: This study clarified the polar facets dominating the optimization of EM attenuation by carefully designing polycrystalline Schottky junctions with metal-semiconductor contacts, and enhanced grain boundaries induced stronger interfacial polarization by adjusting the Schottky contacts, affecting microcurrent slightly. Additionally, the coexistence of Zn and O vacancies brought a lot of lattice defects and distortions for dipole polarization.

Pangolin-Inspired Stretchable, Microwave-Invisible Metascale

Changxian Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel soft-rigid-connection strategy inspired by the pangolin to design a stretchable metamaterial, PIMS, consisting of EMD-scale and elastomer. The device demonstrates robust microwave-absorbing capacity and superior stretchability, with the RCS reduction performance significantly outperforming conventional devices on nondevelopable surfaces. This conceptually novel platform provides a new approach for developing stretchable, nondevelopable surface conformable functional devices.
