Amine functionalized carbon quantum dots from paper precursors for selective binding and fluorescent labelling applications

Varsha Lisa John et al.

Summary: This study reports a novel synthesis route for preparing carbon quantum dots (CQDs) with customized surface functionality. By chemically modifying paper precursors and tethering amine groups on the paper substrates, CQDs with amine functional groups on the surface can be synthesized. The amine functionalization on the surface of CQDs enables their applications in DNA binding, suggesting their potential as efficient biological probes.

A deep investigation into the structure of carbon dots

Keenan J. Mintz et al.

Summary: Carbon dots have been studied for their structure and properties, comparing three promising types in biomedicine to develop structural models for each nanosystem. The data revealed that black CDs and carbon nitride dots are more functionalized, disordered, and amorphous compared to yellow CDs. These models can be used to analyze CD emission properties and understand the structure-property relationship in CDs.

Co-Cu Bimetallic Metal Organic Framework Catalyst Outperforms the Pt/C Benchmark for Oxygen Reduction

Mohamed Fathi Sanad et al.

Summary: A novel nonprecious Co-Cu bimetallic metal-organic framework (MOF) catalyst was reported, which exhibited superior electrocatalytic activity for ORR in alkaline environments compared to Pt/C, along with higher electrochemical stability and better performance. This outstanding behavior was attributed to the unique electronic synergy of the Co-Cu bimetallic centers in the MOF network, as revealed by XPS and PDOS analysis.

Carbon-Dots-Initiated Photopolymerization: An In Situ Synthetic Approach for MXene/Poly(norepinephrine)/Copper Hybrid and its Application for Mitigating Water Pollution

Poushali Das et al.

Summary: This study presents a facile and environmentally friendly method for synthesizing carbon quantum dots from dill leaves, which are used as initiators for polymerization and demonstrated for the first time in the photopolymerization of poly(norepinephrine). The factorial design method identified monomer concentration and UV exposure time as the key factors in the polymerization process, and the resulting polymer was extensively characterized. A composite catalyst was fabricated using UV-triggered polymerization, showing promising performance in catalyzing 4-NP reduction. The catalyst also displayed high reusability and was evaluated for continuous flow catalytic reactions, paving the way for the development of new catalysts.
