Green and environmentally sustainable fabrication of SnS2 quantum dots/chitosan nanocomposite for enhanced photocatalytic performance: Effect of process variables, and water matrices

Summary: In this study, novel SnS2 quantum dots (QDs) deposited on chitosan were synthesized via a green precipitation method using neem leaf extract, and their photocatalytic performance for the degradation of Crystal violet (CV) dye was investigated. The crystal structure, surface morphology, and elemental composition of the prepared SnS2 (QDs)/Ch composite were evaluated, and its outstanding photocatalytic activity for CV degradation was demonstrated through the Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP). The fabricated photocatalyst exhibited high stability and reusability, making it a promising visible light-active nano-photocatalyst.

Bio-inspired, sustainable and mechanically robust graphene oxide-based hybrid networks for efficient fire protection and warning

Summary: This study presents a new route for the design and development of environmentally friendly fireproof and fire alarm materials based on the effective utilization of natural biomass-derivatives. By constructing synergistic interactions among graphene oxide nanosheets, phosphorylated-cellulose nanofibrils, and tannic acid molecules, a hybrid interconnected network with a hierarchical nacre-like structure was achieved. It exhibited improved mechanical properties, good structural stability, excellent flame retardancy, and ultrasensitive fire alarm functions. Furthermore, this network can act as an effective flame-retardant nanocoating to significantly improve the flame retardancy of combustible PU foam materials.

Integration of black phosphorene and MXene to improve fire safety and mechanical properties of waterborne polyurethane

Summary: This study introduces a simple and environmentally friendly electrochemical exfoliation method for preparing black phosphorus-MXene nanohybrids, which enhances the fire safety and mechanical properties of waterborne polyurethane. The incorporation of 2.0 wt% BP-Ti3C2 shows a significant flame retardancy effect on WPU, with reductions in peak heat release rate, total heat release, total smoke production, and total CO2 yield. Advances in 2D MXenes-based materials for water purification and disinfection: Synthesis approaches and photocatalytic mechanistic pathways

Summary: MXenes, as a type of two-dimensional materials, have shown great potential in various industrial applications. With their unique mechanical and physicochemical properties, such as high surface area, increased hydrophilicity, high conductivity, changing band gaps, and robust electrochemistry, MXenes are considered promising materials in environmental remediation technologies. This review focuses on the versatile applications of MXenes and MXene-based nanocomposites in various processes of environmental remediation. It also highlights the photocatalytic abilities of MXene-based nanocomposites for degrading organic pollutants, removing heavy metals, and inactivating microorganisms. Additionally, the role of MXenes as anti-corrosion support in the lifetime of semiconductors is discussed. The current challenges and future perspectives of using MXene materials for environmental remediation and energy production are summarized.

Novel design of MOFs-based hierarchical nanoarchitecture: Towards reducing fire hazards of epoxy resin

Summary: In this study, a novel MOFs-based hierarchical nanoarchitecture was constructed to improve the fire safety properties of epoxy resin composites. The results showed that the synthesized ZIF-8@PA@SiO2 nanostructure was uniformly dispersed in the epoxy resin matrix and formed a good interface bond. The incorporation of ZIF-8@PA@SiO2 reduced the weight loss rate and increased the char residues of the composites. Moreover, the flame retardant nanocomposite exhibited improved limiting oxygen index and decreased peak heat release rate, fire growth index, peak smoke production rate, peak CO production rate, and smoke factor, indicating enhanced fire safety properties.

Recent advances in Two-dimensional Ti3C2Tx MXene for flame retardant polymer materials

Summary: MXenes, as a new family of two-dimensional nanomaterials, have shown great potential in flame retardant composites due to their metal-like conductivity, diverse surface chemistry and solution processability. This review provides the latest research progress on flame retardant composites using neat MXenes, functionalized MXenes and synergistic systems based on MXenes and other components. The efficiency and modification strategies of MXenes-based flame retardants are discussed, with a focus on the working mechanisms in different matrices. Furthermore, flame retardant MXenes-based composites also exhibit multiple functions such as EMI shielding, thermal conductivity and electro-/photo-thermal conversion, leading to wider applications in high-end fields.

Novel CuO/Mn3O4/ZnO nanocomposite with superior photocatalytic activity for removal of Rabeprazole from water
