Summary: The study found that the most common phenotype in elderly patients newly diagnosed with acromegaly includes small adenomas and moderately high IGF-1 levels. GH <= 6 ng/ml at diagnosis and female gender, rather than age per se, were associated with a greater chance of response to SRL.

Summary: Elderly patients with acromegaly are not uncommon, and primary medical therapy is a reasonable option with effective results, while the rate of surgical success is not reduced. A careful cost-benefit balance is suggested. Disease-specific comorbidities are more prevalent in acromegalic patients with a longer follow-up rather than in those diagnosed aged >= 65 years.

Differences in quality of life between genders in acromegaly

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the impact of secondary mental disorders on quality of life and disease status in patients with acromegaly. It was found that female patients had more severe depression and anxiety symptoms at the time of acromegaly diagnosis, which was associated with differences in quality of life. Further validation is needed to confirm the correlations between female gender, depression/anxiety scores, and quality of life.
