Effect of water-in-oil and oil-in-water with Span 80 on coal flotation

Jixuan Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions with the same Span 80 emulsifier on flotation performance. By comparing the particle size composition and recovered water of concentrates using kerosene, water-in-oil, and oil-in-water emulsions as collectors, it was found that oil-in-water with 0.5 g Span 80 showed the highest concentrate yield and combustible recovery, while water-in-oil had higher ash content, flotation rate constant, and recovered water. These differences can be attributed to variations in the oil droplet composition of the emulsions, which affect the yields of coarse particles in the concentrates, and subsequently influence the recovery water and fine particle variation.

Emission characteristics of nitrogen and sulfur containing pollutants during the pyrolysis of oily sludge with and without catalysis

Wu-Jun Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the emission characteristics of nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) containing pollutants during the pyrolysis of oily sludge with and without the catalyst FeMg layer double hydroxide (FeMg LDH). The results showed that FeMg LDH could efficiently suppress the emission of N-/S-containing pollutants, with amide and heterocyclic-N species identified as primary sources of N-containing pollutants emission, and aliphatic- and disulfides-S as the main contributions to S-pollutants emission. Comprehensive analysis of pollutants emission characteristics could provide insights for sustainable management of hazardous solid wastes.

A critical review on energy recovery and non-hazardous disposal of oily sludge from petroleum industry by pyrolysis

Jiantao Li et al.

Summary: The review highlights the dual features of the energy recovery potential and environmental risks associated with the pyrolysis of oily sludge from the petroleum industry. Despite the hazardous properties of petroleum hydrocarbons and other elements in the sludge, the high oil content and heating value offer significant energy resource potential. Pyrolysis is identified as the most suitable approach for managing oily sludge due to its ability to address both energy recovery and environmental risk mitigation.

Preliminary evaluation of amphiphilic block polyelectrolytes as potential flooding agents for low salinity chemical enhanced oil recovery

Patrizio Raffa et al.

Summary: Amphiphilic block polyelectrolytes are investigated for their potential as chemical agents in low salinity polymer flooding for the first time, showing higher oil recovery rates than commercial partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide at comparable weight concentration and viscosity. The mechanism of recovery may differ from traditional polymer flooding due to possible emulsification of oil. Promising results suggest further research is warranted.
