Bacillus as a source of phytohormones for use in agriculture

Jorge Poveda et al.

Summary: Microbial plant biostimulants (MPBs) enhance crop productivity and quality by activating plant physiological and molecular processes through phytohormone production. Bacillus species, a bacterial genus used as biopesticides, protect plants from pests and pathogens while promoting plant growth through various mechanisms, including increasing tolerance to stress conditions and improving plant nutrition. The production of phytohormones by Bacillus species plays a key role in increasing plant growth, development, and stress response.

Participating mechanism of a major contributing gene ysnE for auxin biosynthesis in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens SQR9

Jiahui Shao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the role of ysnE in IAA biosynthesis in the plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium Bacillus amyloliquefaciens SQR9, and found that the mutant Delta ysnE produced more ILA and TAM, while TOL production was significantly decreased. The results suggest that ysnE may be involved in the IPA and TAM pathways and play roles in IAAld synthesis from IPA and TAM, as well as in the conversion of ILA to TOL.

Highly efficient detoxification of dinitrotoluene by transgenic switchgrass overexpressing bacterial nitroreductase

Kunlong Su et al.

Summary: The study successfully increased the detoxification efficiency of switchgrass to 2,4-DNT using the synthetic NfsI gene, alleviating root growth inhibition and excessive ROS production. The transgenic switchgrass plants showed a 1.7-fold increase in 2,4-DNT removal efficiency compared to control plants, and may participate in 2,4-DNT detoxification through pathways mediated by NfsI.

A Review on the Biotechnological Applications of the Operational Group Bacillus amyloliquefaciens

Mohamad Syazwan Ngalimat et al.

Summary: Members of the operational group Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (OGBa) are Gram-positive, endospore-forming, rod-shaped bacteria that have potential applications as plant growth promoters, biocontrol agents, probiotics, bioremediation agents, as well as producers of commercial enzymes and antibiotics. They show promise in removing organophosphorus pesticides.

Distribution and migration characteristics of dinitrotoluene sulfonates (DNTs) in typical TNT production sites: Effects and health risk assessment

Wenchu Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the geochemical transformation of DNTs affected by historical wastewater spillage from a typical TNT production company in Northwest China. The distribution of DNTs in soil shows both horizontal and vertical patterns, with water flow as the main driving force for horizontal dispersion. The accumulation of DNTs in soil is strongly linked to soil physicochemical properties, posing potential risks to human health.
