Modelling uncertainty in sustainable-green integrated reverse logistics network using metaheuristics optimization

Hadi Gholizadeh et al.

Summary: This paper presents a sustainable reverse logistics process model for polystyrene disposable appliances as an MINLP. Three heuristics, namely, cross-entropy, genetic algorithm, and simulated annealing, are employed to generate initial solutions for the MINLP model. Robust optimization is then utilized to solve the resulting problem. The response surface method and the Taguchi method are applied to optimize parameter values and improve algorithm performance. The heuristics are evaluated against the robust optimization method using the best-worst technique, and the model is validated through a real case study.

Benders decomposition for the distributionally robust optimization of pricing and reverse logistics network design in remanufacturing systems

Hailei Gong et al.

Summary: The study addresses the pricing and reverse logistics network design problem in remanufacturing with price-dependent return quality uncertainty, proposing a distributionally robust risk-averse model and using a Benders decomposition approach to solve it. Computational experiments show that the distributionally robust model can effectively hedge against high uncertainty, and the enhanced Benders decomposition methods outperform classical counterparts and the off-the-shelf solver Gurobi. Managerial insights and future research directions are also explored.

Robust global reverse logistics network redesign for high-grade plastic wastes recycling

Zhitao Xu et al.

Summary: The circular economy represents an alternative closed-loop production and consumption pattern that views waste as a reusable resource to prevent natural resource depletion. Redesigning the global reverse logistics network is crucial, and a robust model has been developed to evaluate the economic and environmental performance of GRLN while considering the relationships between uncertain elements. Additionally, the analysis shows that lower robustness coefficient leads to higher costs but lower emissions in the global recycling system.

The direct and cross effects in a supply chain with consumers sensitive to both carbon emissions and delivery time

Ping He et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impacts of consumers' dual sensitivities to carbon emission and delivery time on the optimal decisions and profits of the manufacturer and retailer in a supply chain. The findings reveal both direct effects and distinct cross effects of consumers' sensitivities on the firms' optimal strategies. To address the potential free riding problem caused by these cross effects, a two-way cost sharing contract is proposed to achieve Pareto improvement for the supply chain.
