Biomass yield and polyphenol compounds profile in globe artichoke as affected by irrigation frequency and drying temperature

Andrzej Salata et al.

Summary: This study found that irrigation frequency and drying temperature significantly affect the biomass yield and pharmacological value of artichoke leaves. Adequate irrigation frequency can increase the dry leaf biomass yield, while higher drying temperatures can increase cynarine and ferulic acid content. The research also found that irrigation frequency affects the content of polyphenolic compounds and flavonoids.

Towards harmonised and regionalised life cycle assessment of fruits: A review on citrus fruit

Maria Ines Cabot et al.

Summary: The citrus fruit sector has a global impact, and conducting life cycle assessments can have a positive effect on the environment. However, there are methodological issues in the assessment of citrus fruits that need further research and improvement. The production and emissions of pesticides and fertilisers are identified as major hotspots, and there is a lack of studies on the early stages of citrus fruit production. The representativeness of farms and the assessment of impacts are highlighted as critical issues.

Integrating the green economy, circular economy and bioeconomy in a strategic sustainability framework

D. D'Amato et al.

Summary: The green economy, circular economy, and bioeconomy are popular narratives in sustainability discussions, offering different approaches to address economic, social, and ecological goals. While individually they may not provide comprehensive solutions, collectively they point towards a society and economy based on renewable resources and biodiversity, fulfilling the needs of current and future generations. Further research on potential competing or supplementary sustainability narratives is needed for holistic and integrative sustainability transformations.
