An alternative Bayesian data envelopment analysis approach for correcting bias or efficiency estimators

Panagiotis D. Zervopoulos et al.

Summary: In this study, an alternative Bayesian DEA approach for obtaining consistent efficiency estimators for convex sets is introduced. The consistency of the estimates is proven through statistical analysis, empirical analysis, and computational analysis. The findings justify the appropriateness of the distributional assumptions and the validity of the bias-correction procedure. The alternative Bayesian DEA estimates show strong correlation with DEA-smoothed bootstrap estimates and have lower mean square error and mean absolute error.

Directional distance function DEA estimators for evaluating efficiency gains from possible mergers and acquisitions

Hussein A. Hassan Al Tamimi et al.

Summary: A new efficiency assessment model was introduced to handle ideal and non-ideal outputs, positive and negative values, applicable in banking and other industries. Empirical findings showed convergence of efficiency between conventional and Islamic banks during 2014-2016, with only mergers between efficient and inefficient banks leading to improved efficiency.

The impact of heterogeneous environmental regulation on the energy eco-efficiency of China's energy-mineral cities

Shengnan Cui et al.

Summary: The study found that different environmental regulations have varying effects on China's energy eco-efficiency, and there is a threshold effect. Energy eco-efficiency in the eastern region showed the most significant growth. Compulsory and market-incentive environmental regulations inhibit energy eco-efficiency, while voluntary environmental regulations have a time lag effect. The study suggests improving environmental regulation tools through enhancing environmental information disclosure, eco-welfare-oriented appraisal, and rewards and punishments for technological innovation.

Summary: This study measured China's energy efficiency from 2000 to 2017 using the ray slack-based model and Super-RSBM, and explored its spatiotemporal characteristics and driving factors. The results showed that China's energy efficiency remained at a medium level with regional inequalities, and was closely associated with economic development and urbanization level.

Deregulation, efficiency and policy determination: An analysis of Australia's electricity distribution sector

Boon L. Lee et al.

Summary: The deregulation of Australian electricity distribution in 1998 did not achieve the intended goals of promoting competition and reducing retail prices. Inefficiencies within the power distribution industry have been identified as a key issue, with distributors operating well below efficient levels. Improving reliability and expanding market size are suggested strategies to enhance efficiency and encourage healthy competition.

Political governance, corruption perceptions index, and national dynamic energy efficiency

Wen-Min Lu et al.

Summary: This study finds that European and high-income countries perform better in terms of national dynamic energy efficiency and CPI. Various proxies of political governance also affect CPI and national dynamic energy efficiency. The CPI plays a mediating role in the relationship between political governance and national dynamic energy efficiency.

Does innovative capability enhance the energy efficiency of Indian Iron and Steel firms? A Bayesian stochastic frontier analysis

Salman Haider et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the energy efficiency and energy-saving potential of Indian iron and steel firms, revealing that most firms can reduce half of their energy consumption, but there is substantial heterogeneity in energy efficiency. The study shows that investing in R&D expenditure, patenting activity, and disembodied technology flow can help firms achieve higher stage energy efficiency.

Financial systems, regulatory quality, and economic growth

Chien-Chiang Lee et al.

Summary: This study explores the symmetric and asymmetric causal relationships among financial systems, regulatory quality, and economic performance in selected African countries. The study confirms various hypotheses and recommends different policy targets based on the type of causal relationship identified. The quality of regulation is seen as crucial in the finance-growth nexus, and considering asymmetric dynamics in testing causality is important.
