Sound Absorption of Hemp Fibers (Cannabis Sativa L.) Based Nonwoven Fabrics and Composites: A Review

Jiangbo Liao et al.

Summary: Compared to synthetic fibrous materials, natural fiber offers an eco-friendly solution in engineering fields due to its unique acoustic characteristics. Recent studies have shown increasing interest in the sound absorption properties of hemp fibers. This review presents the latest advancements in the acoustics of hemp fibers and the design principles for sound absorption hemp-based materials. The improvement of sound absorption properties of hemp includes optimizing manufacturing, materials component, bulk density, morphologies, and structural parameters. Hemp fibers demonstrate robust acoustic performance, contributing to the development of sound absorption hemp-based materials.

Prediction of random incidence sound absorption coefficients of porous materials

Yujun Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper compares different methods for measuring the random incidence sound absorption coefficient of porous materials and finds that impedance tube measurement and the empirical method can accurately predict the results above 400 Hz, while the results obtained in a small self-made reverberation room are consistent with full-size reverberation room results above 800 Hz.

Influence of fineness, length and hollow section of fibers on acoustic absorption

Roberto Atienzar-Navarro et al.

Summary: The study focuses on investigating the structural characteristics of two different fibers (acrylic and polyester) and their impact on sound absorption performance. Results show that in acrylic fibers, fineness significantly influences sound absorption compared to fiber length, while in polyester fibers, hollow fibers exhibit better acoustic behavior than solid fibers.

Development of Circularly Recyclable Low Melting Temperature Bicomponent Fibers toward a Sustainable Nonwoven Application

Zengwei Guo et al.

Summary: Sustainable low melting temperature bicomponent polyester fibers were developed using potentially biobased PHT as the sheath material and PBT as the core material, showing superior mechanical properties and successful production at high temperatures. The bicomponent fibers were completely depolymerized at 200 degrees Celsius, yielding pure terephthalate for convenient recycling, indicating feasibility of circular recycling for improved sustainability.
