The characteristics of Sustainable SVC in Cities include stakeholder engagement, cooperation, ethics, self-organization and learning capacities, diversity, sustainable economic development, etc. A framework for Sustainable SVC in Cities, including environmental issues, management, social entrepreneurship, and stakeholder proximity, is proposed.

Making sustainability development goals (SDGs) operational at suburban level: Potentials and limitations of neighbourhood sustainability assessment tools

Summary: This study contributes to the operationalization of SDGs at the neighbourhood level by examining the usefulness of Neighbourhood Sustainability Assessment (NSA) tools. The comparative analysis of three NSA tools reveals their differences and complementarities with respect to different SDGs. The findings show that these tools mainly focus on general urban issues, climate action, responsible production and innovation, and partially on social wellbeing goals.

Summary: This study investigates the role of Neighborhood Sustainability Assessment tools in operationalizing the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and finds that these tools have potential in addressing general urban issues, climate action, responsible production and innovation, and social well-being while showing weaknesses in other SDGs. Insights and recommendations are provided for overcoming limitations and designing neighborhood evaluation systems targeting the SDGs more directly.

Seeking sustainable development policies at the municipal level based on the triad of city, economy and environment: evidence from Hunan province, China

Summary: The study examined the relationships between urbanization, economic development, and ecological environment quality in cities in Hunan province over the past decade using the Environmental Kuznets Curve theory. It found that urban expansion had a high positive impact on economic development, particularly at high urbanization levels, but also had significant negative effects on ecological environment quality. The overall trend showed a slow improvement in environmental quality in cities at both low and high levels of urban expansion.
