Solar heat for biodiesel production in microchannel

Summary: This study utilizes glass microreactors assisted by solar heat to produce biodiesel through transesterification of waste cooking oil, effectively utilizing limited resources and reducing environmental pollution. The results show that the performance of the helical microreactor is better, and the use of glass microreactors significantly reduces operating costs, resulting in a substantial reduction in energy consumption.

Solar energy-assisted reactor for the sustainable biodiesel production from Butea monosperma oil: Optimization, kinetic, thermodynamic and assessment studies

Summary: In this study, a solar energy-assisted reactor was developed for biodiesel production from Butea monosperma oil. The optimized conditions resulted in a high yield of Butea monosperma methyl ester (BMME) and the fuel properties of BMME were evaluated. Kinetic studies and thermodynamic analysis were conducted to understand the reaction mechanism and system characteristics. The sustainability indicators for BMME production were also evaluated using green chemistry metrics.

Techno-economic assessment of solar thermal and alternative energy integration in supercritical water gasification of microalgae

Summary: The economic viability of integrating energy alternatives such as solar thermal options, natural gas, and electricity in microalgae-based supercritical water gasification (SCWG) process was studied. Different energy configurations were evaluated, with natural gas or a combination of parabolic trough solar and natural gas identified as the most economical options. Operational costs contributed significantly to the minimum fuel selling price (MFSP) and were dependent on the prices of microalgae and hydrogen. The choice of energy option and process-energy configuration played a crucial role in the economic feasibility of the SCWG process.

Summary: Microwave pyrolysis powered by solar photovoltaic electricity has been studied for disposal of corn stover in India. The study focuses on maximizing wood vinegar and biochar yields with applications in agriculture and economic benefits for farmers. Under optimal conditions, wood vinegar and biochar yields were measured at 31% and 34%, respectively. Techno-economic assessment estimates monthly income, payback period, and CO2 mitigation quantity for lab-scale and scaled-up production systems. This research contributes to greenhouse gas reduction, climate change mitigation, and economic benefits for farmers through effective utilization of agro-residues.
