How heterogeneous technological progress promotes industrial structure upgrading and industrial carbon efficiency? Evidence from China's industries

Jianmin You et al.

Summary: The bottleneck in improving China's industrial carbon efficiency lies in the unequal contributions of carbon emission technology and energy technology, as well as neutral technology and capital-based technology. Clarifying how heterogeneous technological progress enhances carbon efficiency through industrial structural upgrading is crucial to overcoming this bottleneck. The study examines the effects of four levels of technological progress on carbon efficiency under two technical classifications and provides insights into the suitable path for promoting China's industrial carbon efficiency. The research findings demonstrate that energy technology has a greater direct effect on improving carbon efficiency compared to carbon emission technology, and neutral technology is more effective than capital-embodied technology. Indirectly, progress in capital-embodied technology enhances industrial structures and carbon efficiency, while progress in energy technology positively and significantly impacts carbon efficiency through green upgrading of industrial structures. Additionally, the level of industrial development, government environmental governance, and energy structure also play a role in carbon efficiency.

Renewable energy technology innovation, industrial structure upgrading and green development from the perspective of China?s provinces

Yi Su et al.

Summary: Based on empirical analysis, this paper finds that renewable energy technology innovation has a significant positive impact on green development, while the rationalization of the industrial structure also has a positive effect on green development. However, the advancement of the industrial structure has a negative impact on green development. The study further reveals a mutually exclusive effect between renewable energy technology innovation and industrial structure upgrading, but their joint effect can promote the positive impact of technological innovation on green development while restraining the negative effect of industrial structure advancement.

The moderating effects of democracy and technology adoption on the relationship between trade liberalisation and carbon emissions

Zhou Lu et al.

Summary: This paper examines the effects of trade liberalisation policy and democracy on carbon emissions and finds that trade liberalisation increases carbon emissions, while democracy reduces the growth rates of carbon emissions. The interaction between trade liberalisation and democracy also has a positive impact on carbon emissions, indicating that trade liberalisation has a less negative effect on carbon emissions in more democratic countries. These findings have important policy implications for addressing the climate change crisis.

The moderating role of environmental-related innovation and technologies in growth-energy utilization nexus in highest-performing eco-innovation economies

Taiwo Temitope Lasisi et al.

Summary: This study aims to explore the role of environmental-related innovations and technologies in mitigating the negative effects of fossil fuel dependence and natural resources consumption on the environment, in pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals 7, 8, and 12. The findings suggest that environmental innovations hinder economic output, while oil utilization and environmental technologies stimulate economic growth. Furthermore, environmental technologies moderate the positive effect of oil utilization on economic prosperity. The study also highlights the importance of evaluating the cost-effectiveness and energy efficiency of technology-related inputs in the design and manufacturing process.

Technology adoption with carbon emission trading mechanism: modeling with heterogeneous agents and uncertain carbon price

Chenhao Fang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an optimization model considering heterogeneous agents with different market shares making technology adoption decisions, and introduces a carbon emission trading mechanism to reduce carbon emissions. The study finds that implementing the carbon emission trading mechanism is an effective way to promote technology adoption and carbon emission reduction, although it does not necessarily lead to more carbon emissions reduction than implementing only a carbon cap.
