Isoflavone glucoside genistin, an inhibitor targeting Sortase A and Listeriolysin O, attenuates the virulence of Listeria monocytogenes in vivo and in vitro

Minda Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that genistin inhibits the peptidase activity of SrtA and the hemolytic activity of LLO without affecting the growth of L. monocytogenes. Furthermore, genistin reduces L. monocytogenes biofilm formation and invasion of colorectal cancer cells. Mechanistic studies revealed that genistin blocks LLO oligomerization, resulting in reduced damage to the cancer cells.

Bioactive triple peptide inhibits inflammasome activation to alleviate Salmonella-induced intestinal inflammation in mice via modulation of host defense and bacterial virulence

Chenbin Cui et al.

Summary: This study found that a bioactive triple peptide (BTP) can alleviate intestinal injuries and inflammation caused by Salmonella typhimurium, inhibit bacteria translocation, and exhibit antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities. BTP also significantly inhibited the adhesion and invasion of S. typhimurium to cells.

Gliadin Peptide P31-43 Induces mTOR/NFkβ Activation and Reduces Autophagy: The Role of Lactobacillus paracasei CBA L74 Postbiotc

Mariangela Conte et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether the postbiotic Lactobacillus paracasei (LP) could prevent the harmful effects of gliadin peptides on mTOR, autophagy, and the inflammatory response. The results showed that LP induced autophagy in Caco-2 cells and protected against the effects of gliadin. It was suggested that LP pretreatment could be considered for clinical trials.

Lactobacillus plantarum-derived postbiotics prevent Salmonella-induced neurological dysfunctions by modulating gut-brain axis in mice

Yanping Wu et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the benefits of postbiotics derived from Lactobacillus plantarum on improving neurological dysfunctions caused by Salmonella infection. The results show that these postbiotics effectively prevent Salmonella infection and inhibit weight loss, bacterial translocation, and tissue damage. Furthermore, postbiotics improve brain injuries, neuroinflammation, and behavioral abnormalities, and influence neuroactive molecules and gut microbiota composition.

Inflammasome activation by Salmonella

Bryant Clare

Summary: Host recognition of bacteria like Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium requires multiple host detection systems to generate complex inflammatory responses which can be cell type specific and has the potential for bacterial subversion of the host. The bacteria possess a diverse array of PAMPs that can potentially activate multiple PRRs concurrently in different cell types. Different inflammasomes play important regulatory roles in the host response to Salmonella infection.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus postbiotic-induced immunomodulation as safer alternative to the use of live bacteria

Susana Salva et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the immunoregulatory effect of Lactobacillus rhamnosus CRL1505 postbiotics in human intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and dendritic cells (DCs) and identified the cell wall and peptidoglycan as key molecules for the immunobiotic properties of this strain. These findings could provide predictive tools for the in vivo efficacy of postbiotics and their potential future applications in immunocompromised patients.

Lactobacillus plantarum 69-2 Combined with Galacto-Oligosaccharides Alleviates D-Galactose-Induced Aging by Regulating the AMPK/SIRT1 Signaling Pathway and Gut Microbiota in Mice

Wan Wang et al.

Summary: The study showed that the combination of L. plantarum 69-2 and GOS could significantly improve liver function, antioxidant capacity, and inflammation by regulating gut microbiota and activating the hepatic AMPK/SIRT1 signaling pathway. By targeting the gut microbiota through the gut-liver axis, it provided new insights for alleviating aging.
