Multiphoton Microscopy for Identifying Collagen Signatures Associated with Biochemical Recurrence in Prostate Cancer Patients

Ina P. Pavlova et al.

Summary: The study used multiphoton microscopy to identify stromal features of prostate tumors associated with aggressive behavior and clinical outcomes. Patients with recurrent disease had higher collagen content, fiber intensity signal, and width in their tumors compared to non-recurrent patients. This suggests the potential of stromal collagen features identified by MPM for prostate cancer risk assessment.

Navigating the Collagen Jungle: The Biomedical Potential of Fiber Organization in Cancer

Jonathan N. Ouellette et al.

Summary: Recent research has emphasized the importance of the collagen-rich extracellular matrix in characterizing tumor invasion and progression. Fibrillar collagen is upregulated in many cancers, and specific collagen fiber organization patterns are associated with disease stage, prognosis, treatment response, and other clinical features in multiple cancer types. There is great potential for developing image-based collagen fiber biomarkers for clinical applications.
