Broader environmental adaptation of rare rather than abundant bacteria in reforestation succession soil

Zhibin He et al.

Summary: Revealing the responses of rare and abundant bacteria to environmental change is crucial for understanding microbial community assembly and ecosystem function. This study investigated the assembly processes and environmental adaptations of rare and abundant bacteria in different reforestation successions. The results showed that rare bacteria had wider environmental adaptability and stronger clustering, while abundant bacteria were more influenced by stochastic processes. The study highlights the key role of rare and abundant bacteria in reforestation ecological succession soils.

Environmental adaptation is stronger for abundant rather than rare microorganisms in wetland soils from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Summary: Abundant microbes show stronger environmental adaptability and are less sensitive to changes, while rare microbes are more sensitive to environmental variations. Community assembly of abundant microbes is dominated by stochastic processes, while rare microbes are predominantly governed by deterministic processes.
