Aspirin Thromboprophylaxis Is Associated With Less Major Bleeding Events Following Total Joint Arthroplasty

Noam Shohat et al.

Summary: This study compared the incidence of major bleeding events (MBEs) in patients receiving aspirin as venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis vs other chemoprophylaxis following total joint arthroplasty (TJA). The results showed that patients who received aspirin had a lower risk of major bleeding. Factors such as age, body mass index, anesthesia score, and surgical factors were independently associated with an increased risk of MBE.

Randomised comparative effectiveness trial of Pulmonary Embolism Prevention after hiP and kneE Replacement (PEPPER): the PEPPER trial protocol

Vincent D. Pellegrini et al.

Summary: This study aims to compare the effectiveness and safety of three commonly used chemoprophylaxis agents in preventing pulmonary embolism and venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing total hip and knee replacements. The study utilizes a randomized pragmatic comparative effectiveness trial design and will analyze patient-reported outcomes as well as safety and efficacy measures.

Effect of Aspirin vs Enoxaparin on Symptomatic Venous Thromboembolism in Patients Undergoing Hip or Knee Arthroplasty The CRISTAL Randomized Trial

Verinder S. Sidhu et al.

Summary: Aspirin had a significantly higher rate of symptomatic VTE compared to enoxaparin in patients undergoing hip or knee arthroplasty, although there were no significant differences in other secondary outcomes.

Non-Inferiority of Aspirin for Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis After Hip Arthroplasty in a Statewide Registry

Stefano R. Muscatelli et al.

Summary: The study found that using aspirin alone as prophylaxis for venous thromboembolism after total hip arthroplasty is not inferior to other anticoagulants, not only in preventing venous thromboembolism, but also in terms of bleeding events.
