Aerogel-Functionalized Thermoplastic Polyurethane as Waterproof, Breathable Freestanding Films and Coatings for Passive Daytime Radiative Cooling

Xiameng Shan et al.

Summary: Passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) is a sustainable technology that achieves self-cooling by radiating heat to outer space. In this study, polymer films based on thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and their composite films with silica aerogels were found to have high solar reflection and radiative ability, making them suitable for personal thermal management (PTM) and waterproof breathable textile applications.

Ultrawhite BaSO4 Paints and Films for Remarkable Daytime Subambient Radiative Cooling

Xiangyu Li et al.

Summary: The work demonstrates remarkable full-daytime subambient cooling performance with BaSO4 nanoparticle films and BaSO4 nanocomposite paints, achieving high solar reflectance and sky window emissivity. Field tests show that the BaSO4-acrylic paint has similar cooling performance to the BaSO4 films, with excellent reliability, ease of use, and compatibility with commercial paint fabrication process. Overall, the BaSO4-acrylic paint shows a standard figure of merit of 0.77, making it one of the top radiative cooling solutions available.

Use of hollow silica and titanium dioxide microparticles in solar reflective paints for daytime radiative cooling applications in a tropical region

Sarun Atiganyanun

Summary: Passive radiative cooling using solar reflective paints with hollow SiO2 and TiO2 microparticles as pigments shows improved solar reflectance and cooling performance, with hollow SiO2 microparticles being more effective than TiO2 on average. Thermal and spectral emissivity measurements also indicate better broadband infrared emission for the hollow SiO2 microparticle paint.
