Chlorophyll does not reflect green light - how to correct a misconception

Aqueous Extracts of Three Herbs Allelopathically Inhibit Lettuce Germination but Promote Seedling Growth at Low Concentrations

Complex Synergistic Interactions among Volatile and Phenolic Compounds Underlie the Effectiveness of Allelopathic Residues Added to the Soil for Weed Control

Summary: The introduction of allelopathic cover crops is a common practice in Integrated Weed Management. Utilizing the phytotoxic residues of these plants can enhance their weed control effectiveness. Previous studies found that the low concentrations of allelochemicals in plant residues alone did not explain their significant weed control levels. This study demonstrated that synergistic interactions between volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and water-soluble compounds can explain the bioherbicidal effectiveness of allelopathic residues applied as a soil amendment.

Summary: Driven by consumer demand and government policies, the use of synthetic additives in aquafeed needs to be replaced with sustainable and natural alternatives. Seaweeds, as a sustainable marine source, contain bioactive phenolic compounds that can be used in various applications such as food, animal feed, aqua feeds, or microencapsulation. Seaweed phenolics, specifically phlorotannins found in brown seaweed, have unique structures and multiple antioxidant mechanisms. They can bind to proteins through covalent and non-covalent bonds, exhibiting specific bioactivities. Additionally, they can enhance the rheological and mechanical properties of food-grade delivery systems, showing the versatility of seaweed phenolics.

Control of Problematic Weeds in Mediterranean Vineyards with the Bioherbicide Pelargonic Acid
