Insights into the Hydrogenolysis Mechanism of Diphenyl Ether over Cl-Modified Pt/?-Al2O3 Catalysts by Experimental and Theoretical Studies

Chen Zhu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that a Cl-modified Pt/??-Al2O3 catalyst exhibits higher selectivity in C???O bond cleavage reactions. Cl species preferentially localize at terrace sites of Pt nanoparticles, leading to a decrease in active sites and suppression of hydrogenation reactions on aromatic products.

Hydrodeoxygenation of guaiacol via in situ H2 generated through a water gas shift reaction over dispersed NiMoS catalysts from oil-soluble precursors: Tuning the selectivity towards cyclohexene

A. V. Vutolkina et al.

Summary: Efficient hydrodeoxygenation of guaiacol via in situ hydrogen generated through Water Gas Shift (WGS) reaction over nanosized unsupported NiMoS catalysts with tunable selectivity toward cyclohexene was reported. The reaction offers a direct reaction route for oxygen-containing compounds from bio-oils depending on catalyst precursors and reaction conditions. The proposed reaction routes and mechanisms for hydrodeoxygenation of guaiacol were also discussed.

Phase tuning of ZrO2 supported cobalt catalysts for hydrodeoxygenation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-dimethylfuran under mild conditions

Tianci Xiao et al.

Summary: The crystal structure of catalyst support plays a significant role in influencing its surface and electronic properties, thereby affecting catalytic activity. By preparing monoclinic, tetragonal, and mixed phase Co/ZrO2 catalysts, different hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis activities were observed in the conversion of HMF to DMF. The interaction between cobalt and t-ZrO2 resulted in higher hydrogenation activity, while the presence of acid concentration on the surface of Co/m-ZrO2 led to higher efficiency in hydrogenolysis reactions. The combination of high hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis activities in Co/Mix-ZrO2 achieved the highest yield of DMF under mild conditions.

Mechanistic Investigations on the Catalytic Transfer Hydrogenation of Lignin-Derived Monomers over Ru Catalysts: Theoretical and Kinetic Studies

Tufeil Sartaj Khan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the kinetic and mechanistic aspects of the catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH) strategy for the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reaction of oxygenated compounds such as lignin-derived phenolics. By designing catalysts with low metal loading, mild reaction conditions, and high selectivity, high product yields were achieved. Using Ru/Al2O3-acidic catalyst, a 74% cyclohexanol yield from guaiacol was obtained at 225 degrees C, demonstrating the effectiveness of the CTH strategy for industrial applications.

Summary: The study focused on constructing three-dimensional pompon-like well-defined RuCo particles with tunable crystallographic structures and surface atomically dispersed Ru atoms as support-free metal catalysts in the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of lignin-derived guaiacol. The RuCo-300 sample showed excellent catalytic activity, promoting the HDO process and allowing for rapid demethoxylation reaction of guaiacol. This Ru-Co synergetic catalysis provides a new strategy for constructing robust heterogeneous bimetal catalysts for practical HDO processes.
