Single-Atom Pt Boosting Electrochemical Nonenzymatic Glucose Sensing on Ni(OH)2/N-Doped Graphene

Baojun Long et al.

Summary: The researchers designed a catalyst composed of single-atom Pt supported on Ni(OH)(2) nanoplates/nitrogen-doped graphene for constructing an electrochemical nonenzymatic glucose sensor. The catalyst exhibited low anode peak potential and high sensitivity, with excellent selectivity, short response time, and high stability. The improved performance of the catalyst was attributed to the stronger binding strength of glucose on the single-atom Pt active centers and their surrounding Ni atoms, as well as the fast electron transfer ability of the conductive graphene.

Preparation of electrochemical sensor based on the novel NiO quantum dots modified Cu/Cu2O 3D hybrid electrode and its application for non-enzymatic detection of glucose in serums and beverages

Wenbin Liu et al.

Summary: 3D Cu/Cu2O/NiO hybrid electrodes were synthesized successfully via a seed-medium process combined with electrodeposition and applied to non-enzymatic glucose detection. The single Cu2O electrode demonstrated the highest sensitivity, while the 3D hybrid electrodes electrodeposited for 2 minutes exhibited the widest linear range. The obtained 3D Cu/Cu2O/NiO QDs hybrid electrode showed acceptable sensing performance in real serum and beverages, indicating its potential for monitoring glucose in biological and food samples.

Tuning structures of Pt shells on Pd nanocubes as neutral glucose oxidation catalysts and sensors

Shih-Sin Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the application of nanocrystals with high-indexed facets in electrocatalysis. Different Pt shell structures were synthesized on the surface of Pd nanocubes by varying the concentration of Pt precursors, and their catalytic performances were studied. The results demonstrate that nanocrystals with specific facet structures exhibit higher catalytic activity and sensitivity, showing potential as glucose sensors.

Twin PdPtIr porous nanotubes as a dual-functional catalyst for oxygen reduction and evolution reactions

Dan Yu et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized PdPtIr porous nanotubes with abundant twin defects, high index facets, and ultrahigh surface/volume ratio, showing superior oxygen reduction and evolution reaction activity. The DFT calculation results indicate an optimal adsorption energy of oxygen on the (211) facet when introducing Ir atoms into a Pt and Pd composite, providing a new strategy for designing multiple active sites in 1D nanomaterials.

Summary: Current characterization techniques cannot unravel the detailed strain distributions on high-index facets, hindering the understanding of electroactivity origins. The lack of theoretical principles to quantify structural features on HIFs makes experimental efforts laborious, but exploring surface structural features and establishing a database of atomic strain distributions can promote efficient transition metal based electrocatalysts design and synthesis.
