Hot workability of a spray formed 2195 aluminum-lithium alloy based on an improved isothermal processing map and DRX ?C-curve?

Rui Luo et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior of a spray-formed 2195 aluminum-lithium alloy is studied using advanced physical simulation technology and systematic characterization methods. An improved isothermal processing map is constructed to capture the deformation features under continuously varying strain. The DRX 'C-curve' model is proposed to analyze the microstructure evolution. The results show tendencies of discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX) at low temperatures and continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) at high temperatures.

Xuejian Lin et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior of a Ti-47.5Al-2.5V-1.0Cr-0.2Zr alloy was investigated through thermal simulation experiments. A constitutive equation was established to describe the relationship between stress, strain rate, and temperature, and the predicted stress curve was consistent with the experimental results. The processing map identified the optimum hot deformation parameters, and the dominant deformation mechanisms of the TiAl alloy were DRX, dislocation movement, and twins.

Summary: The flow behavior and thermal expansion behavior of a homogenized Al-Cu-Li alloy were investigated through quenching expansion tests and isothermal compression tests. It was found that the temperature rise dissolves coarse secondary phases and increases the coefficient of thermal expansion. Different constitutive models were evaluated, with the two-step optimized Johnson-Cook model showing the highest precision in predicting the material behavior.

Hot deformation behaviors of AZ91 magnesium alloy: Constitutive equation, ANN-based prediction, processing map and microstructure evolution

Dongxiao Wang et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior of an AZ91 magnesium alloy was studied using the Arrhenius model and Back-Propagation Artificial Neural Network (BP-ANN) approaches. The results showed that the BP-ANN model had higher accuracy compared to the Arrhenius model. The processing map was divided into three parts: machinable area, instability area I, and instability area II. The instability mode in areas B and C changed from cracks to holes with increasing temperature or decreasing strain rate. Stable hot-deformation conditions were found in specific ranges of temperature and strain rate.

Precipitation behavior and its effect on the dynamic recrystallization of a novel extruded Al-Cu-Li alloy

Kuizhao Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of precipitation on the recrystallization behavior of an Al-Cu-Li alloy during compression by designing different alloys with varying pre-precipitations through heat treatment processes. The results show that precipitation significantly affects the recrystallization volume fraction without changing the recrystallization mechanism. Additionally, different extruded texture fibers coordinate deformation through different softening mechanisms and stimulate the nucleation of lamellar grain in R-cube textures.

Effect of S addition on mechanical and machinability properties in austenitic Fe-Mn-Al-C lightweight steels

Hyungkwon Park et al.

Summary: This study investigates the machinability of austenitic LWS and the impact of MnS formation on its mechanical and machinability properties. The research finds that the number and area fraction of MnS inclusions increase linearly with the increase of S content, while the size of inclusions first increases rapidly and then slows down. The tensile properties remain unchanged regardless of the S content, but the impact energy deteriorates linearly with the increase of S content. Additionally, the formation of MnS inclusions significantly improves the machinability of LWS by acting as sites of mechanical stress concentration and generating thermal cavity and pores during machining.

Characterization of Al3Zr precipitation via double-step homogenization and recrystallization behavior after subsequent deformation in 2195 Al-Li alloy

You-Jie Guo et al.

Summary: The optimal double-step homogenization parameters for as-cast 2195 Al-Li alloy were determined, showing that double-step homogenization not only prevented overburning but also promoted more uniform precipitation of Al3Zr dispersoids. The size and number density of Al3Zr dispersoids in the DH sample were finer and higher, resulting in a narrower precipitate free zone and higher Zener drag pressure, effectively impeding recrystallization behavior during subsequent solution treatment.

Summary: Research on the hot tensile deformation behavior of 2195 Al-Li alloy in the temperature range of 440-500 degrees C revealed that the degree of dynamic recrystallization increases with the strain, and the pinning effect of precipitations is more sensitive to temperature. When the temperature reaches 500 degrees C, the weakening of the pinning effect of precipitations makes it easier to activate more dynamic recrystallization.
